Car Trouble
It’s 354 p.m.
On Monday.
Do I know where my children are?
Yes, I think so But I still haven’t even recorded today’s your daily Lex and now it’s time.
So here it is I’m excited.
Are you you should be because I have a topic that wasn’t even planned as the topic until it happened on Friday Friday Yes Friday, and then I as it was happening.
I was like, well if nothing else I know this will be the topic come Monday Despite the long list of topics I had Interrupting for real life like we’re interrupting for theme songs Your daily Lex As you may recall I drive a Tesla I Like the car.
I don’t love the car.
I like the car.
I like the car a lot I like the car less because I don’t love Tesla’s CEO.
I’m not gonna mention in my name, but I think it’s Fridman anyway, I got this Tesla and I We actually own two different Tesla’s and this one the one that I drive is a Model X and it’s been fine It hasn’t been great.
I just had more than his fair share of issues No, granted some of those issues aren’t necessarily its fault like the flat tires dealing with a flat tire to Tesla sucks because they can’t You don’t get a spare and they can’t typically change the tire on the side of the road because of how heavy the car is so it’s a whole thing and You can’t tow a Tesla and a regular tow truck.
It has to be a flatbed tow truck So it’s just very annoying when you get a flat with the Tesla fine Not entirely its fault, but also its fault and various other things haven’t ever quite worked right in the car You can get mobile service appointments.
Sometimes sometimes you can’t you have to take the car into the shop Okay, I’m okay to do that, too So I’d had a mobile service appointment scheduled because for a couple of years The there was a button in the car that didn’t work It used to work and then a stop where you and it’s the button to do speech commands without speech commands The music interface in the car sucks like it’s only good if you want to kill yourself while driving because you can’t really navigate the interface by touch And I want you to type in a whole bunch of things to search for things versus making it very browsable That’s a giant pain.
So not having the speech buttons things but it’s not a huge deal I simply scheduled a mobile service appointment.
They delayed that appointment by a month because they said they needed a part fine in between when that appointment was supposed to happen and And now I guess I had an issue where the car popped up a message saying the low voltage battery was dying And then I should contact Tesla to get it replaced.
That’s basically your standard car battery in most cars You just swap out the car battery Tesla recommends that you have Tesla to it now all car manufacturers want you to use them but there they have reasons it’s hard to get to the Tesla car battery and It powers the systems in different ways.
So I updated you by the way, you cannot talk to Tesla service You can only talk to them through the app.
You cannot talk to them on the phone So I go into my service request I can’t make a new one because I already have one open and I have to say hey I have this appointment coming up, but I also have this low voltage battery message.
I’d like to add that Do we need to come sooner?
And they said no problem.
We’re coming in a couple weeks.
You’ll be good until then.
I Bet you know where the story is going because come Friday, it’s Friday evening I have to take my daughter to dance class.
We go out into the car and She’s in no work so the car won’t turn on which also makes various other elements of the car pretty tricky like to open the door required an incredible amount of physical strength No hyperbole because it wants to work on its electronicness and it couldn’t So his whole thing so the tow truck guy has to come out I can’t use the Tesla app and say hey now my car is totally dead I need roadside assistance and they have to send a flatbed They have to send somebody who’s good at towing Tesla’s in this situation and the guy comes out and he’s like It’s in your garage and it’s dead and I’m like, yep, and he’s like this is gonna be fun because the garage is at a 90-degree Angle from where the tow truck would be Exciting stuff.
He had to do a lot to get it out first He had to jump the battery as best he could which means exposing Various elements of the car that I don’t typically get to see just opening the front trunk Aka the hood to get to where the battery was required his extensive knowledge of how to operate dead Tesla’s which he really did have He said he had gone through many days of training with Tesla Which is why they’re Tesla’s preferred vendor in New Jersey and then you know We were able with his jump to get the computers to work a little bit so that I could put the car into towing mode Fine then to actually move the car in various ways He was using a chain And other things and then he had to put stuff under each tire to turn them and then he was also using the steering wheel To turn the wheels and my god, he had to use all of his strength since the power steering wouldn’t work It was the whole thing They took my car away Friday night And again, I can only write to Tesla V the app so I’m writing them via the app furiously not furiously like angry, but you know speedily Friday night say hey I need a I need a loaner because they don’t always give you a lot of like I’m gonna need a loaner need a loaner first thing come you know Saturday morning and luckily they did hook me up with one.
So now I’m driving a weird white Model X.
I’m sorry Casey But I’m driving a a white Model X and they promised that I have the car back Almost certainly Saturday and worst case Monday.
They would update me if anything was gonna get delayed They did not update now today.
They’ve been updating me but I’m not gonna lie.
I’m not gonna lie They did not update now today.
They’ve been updating me but still don’t have the car.
My guess is tomorrow.
Anyway, happy Monday Lex P.S.
I finished recording this at 8.07 p.m.
And I’m only now posting the episode
