Direct Address
I forgot a funny part of the story on Friday.
Friday I was telling you about how I get these, we sometimes get packages and I was using my childhood address, One Cardinal Place, as the thing.
Like I’m in Manalapan, this other family’s in Morganville, but they have the same street address as I do, just one town over.
And so we sometimes get their deliveries and they get ours.
And you know, so you get packages or food or whatever to the wrong, in this fake case, One Cardinal Place.
And so when I realized that my Crocs had been misdelivered to the wrong One Cardinal Place, Lauren had said to me over text message, yeah, you can go pick it up from them anytime.
And I said, sure, I’m happy to do that.
What’s the address?
I thought that was very funny.
So I wanted to share it with you.
Anyway, let’s do today’s episode.
Your Daily Lex.
Oh, it’s WWDC keynote day.
So all the Apple nerds in my community might skip this episode or might catch it later, which is fine.
It’s gonna be fine.
And I have all kinds of thoughts about WWDC.
One of them is, you know, I loved, I loved covering Apple for a living.
And I also love now not covering Apple for a living.
Like I still do the rebound where I get to talk about technology each week.
But the less fun part of covering Apple professionally is, you know, having to breathlessly cover every release, right, like a point release of an OS where there’s not that much new to be excited about is hard to write about.
But I’m certainly excited to see what new features are.
As I have talked about a lot on the rebound, I’m finding it very difficult to get excited about a headset.
I cannot imagine a world where a headset has features that I find intriguing.
I’m just not that kind of a gamer.
And seriously, like what crazy features could they have that I would get excited about?
I’m watching as I record this old audio get recorded over, which is exciting.
My eldest, Ani, has been working on some video stuff for school.
She’s making a commercial for Peloton.
She’s using my puppet, Arlo, the orange furry guy.
I did a bunch of puppetry for her, but she needed some ADR over the weekend.
So like, could I record some dialogue, some voiceover?
And I thought she wanted booming Lex Friedman announcer voice, Peloton, you know, we motivate you to do good, whatever it was, I don’t know.
But she’s like, no, I want you to do like some kind of goofy puppet voice.
So we were, you know, experimenting around with different voices.
We kind of landed on one a little bit like this.
And I was going to share with you some of the insane audio that I recorded from it, because she’s like, now you’re working out.
Make working out sounds in that Arlo voice.
Or now you’re running, or now you’re sighing heavily, or now you’re really happy while running.
I’m here to tell you, dear friends, those sounds can sound really inappropriate out of context.
So I thought about playing some of them for you on today’s episode, but I’m not going to.
So, but it did amuse me to have, just do your own, you know, try to do your closest version of this voice and then do like happy running breaths.
Yeah, good times.
Anywho, also over this past weekend, I took my son Liam to a Blue Claws baseball game.
The Blue Claws are one of the minor league teams, a single A division, I believe, minor league team for the Philadelphia Phillies.
I have seen a couple of Redding Phillies games.
That’s another minor league team of the Phillies.
And I learned from my dad over the weekend that they are now the Redding Phyton Phils, or just the Phytons, without the G at the end.
Good for them.
But so we went to this Blue Claws game because Liam was going to be playing the saxophone there, which he did.
Got in the way of a lot of base runners, just kidding.
But so, as we were preparing to go to this game and then at the game, I really kept admiring the Blue Claws logo.
It’s, you know, it’s a blue clawed, I guess, lobster.
He’s blue, he’s clawed, and he’s on a surfboard.
And I find, and I think he’s wearing a baseball cap if memory serves, but I love this logo.
And I knew what was gonna happen, and it did happen, which is to say I bought a Blue Claws hoodie.
It’s quite possible I will never see another Blue Claws game unless Liam plays saxophone in another one, or another one of my kids does some kind of performance there, but I liked that hoodie.
And I bought it just in time for it to be way too hot to wear a hoodie, but man, it was great.
So Liam and his band from school were playing a bunch of songs as people walked into the stadium.
And then the advanced jazz band ensemble also played America the Beautiful.
Nope, God Bless America.
Some song about America, it was God Bless America.
They played that at the seventh inning stretch.
And they were even up on the big screen while they did so, so that was fun.
They were not on the field.
They were just inside the stadium and then being broadcast to the whole stadium.
It was cute and fun.
And then as soon as that was done, Liam was very excited to leave because even with these pitch clocks, which man, they were fun to watch in person, he’s just not a huge baseball fan.
He was ready to go home.
And we left with the Blue Claws game tied and we never found out who won.
That’s how invested we were.
But you know who’s gonna win today?
Apple investors.
I mean, actually probably the Apple stock is gonna plummet today whenever they announce, whatever they’re gonna announce because that’s what always happens, but it’ll come back because that’s what Apple stock does.
Happy Monday.
Lex.
Let’s go.
