Ache is Enough
What a weekend.
What a remarkable weekend.
I had all kinds of thoughts about things I could talk about on this podcast and I remember some of them.
So let’s talk about those.
Your Daily Lex.
Saturday my daughter Sierra had a dance recital and got to watch her do some really cool dances including a solo tab number.
It was initially not a solo tab number.
It was initially a duet tab number and close to the show, like the week of the recital, the other person was like, I’m not good enough at this.
And that other kid is a great dancer who was in a bunch of the dance performances that we saw, but she was new to tap.
Whereas Sierra has been doing tap for a lot of years and that’s pretty advanced to tap.
And Sierra owned at the stage.
I thought she looked and was super cool.
So that was fun.
And then Sunday Liam had a rock shop performance where he did four or five songs with different permutations of bands.
And he was great.
He had his first three or four songs.
I wish I could remember the exact number, but let’s say it was four.
He had his first four songs mostly back to back starting around the second song of the day.
And this was at Asbury Lane.
It’s a very cool venue in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
It’s also a bowling alley, but I like when Liam gets to perform at cool venues in Jersey because they’re often venues where I’ve seen cool acts.
In fact, I recently saw, they might be giants two nights in a row at Asbury lanes and Liam’s previously performed in the stone pony stage where I’ve seen, they might be giants amongst other bands.
He’s also performed Liam has at the house of independence where I’ve seen Chris Gethard do stand up.
So all of these are fun things for me to get to see Liam be on those stages and do his thing.
But so Liam was also in one other band.
This is a band that already had a keyboard player, but they were doing the Boston song or the Boston medley for play long time.
And Liam’s actually played that before with rock shop and it’s got a pretty insane keyboard solo and this band needed Liam to pinch hit playing that keyboard.
So it’s kind of funny because the other keyboards in the band kind of stared on glumly at a second keyboard while Liam did the solo, but whatever.
So Liam had to wait for that song to roll around.
That waiting was about, I don’t know, 18 or so songs.
The waiting equivalent was one hour.
So it’s an hour of Liam hanging out backstage and me hanging out, you know, front stage in the audience.
And it was just, I was the only freedom and fan member there supporting Liam.
Lauren and Sierra had a rehearsal for the music man and I had given Ani the option of not attending because Ani sees a lot of Liam shows.
And honestly Liam has seen a lot of Ani stuff.
So it was a, it was debatable, but I thought it was fairer to Ani not to force Ani to go.
So I didn’t, which was fine.
And so that meant there was an hour of, uh, of time where I got to watch other bands that Liam wasn’t in.
That’s fine.
In general, I had my phone.
I did a little bit of, you know, finishing that day’s crossword puzzle.
Whatever.
Problem was it was loud and getting louder.
Like it got real loud.
Liam was texting me from backstage about how loud it was back there.
And he’s like, and I’m backstage, it’s louder in the front where the speakers are facing.
And I’m like, Oh yes.
And so clearly amps had been getting turned up.
The folks running sound had been turning things up.
And then the bands also got bigger as the evening or as the day progressed, you know, Hey, now there’s saxophones and now there’s two guitars and you know, whatever.
So it was getting real loud, painfully loud, deafeningly loud, problematically loud.
And I was starting to see, Hey, I’m getting a headache.
And listen, I take those shots to prevent headaches, uh, but they’re not, you know, perfect.
And sometimes noise is going to cause a headache and boy did it.
So finally Liam gets to do foreplay a long time.
Even that was incredibly loud.
Cause man, there was a lot of measurements in that one.
It was insane.
And then we left, we go outside and one of Liam’s piano teachers, uh, or Liam’s main piano teacher, Joe was there outside.
He’s like, what did he do for play a long time?
And I’m like, Oh, he just did.
And Joe’s like, Oh, I walked out cause it was so loud.
I can’t believe I missed it.
Luckily I had made a video, which I shared with Joe.
I was like, Joe, it is way too loud.
And you are the dad of the person who runs this thing.
And you used to be the owner who did run this thing until you gave the business to your son.
So I didn’t say any of these things.
I thought them, but Joe did not take action.
Liam and I went out to lunch.
We were eating outdoors.
There was a motorcycle gang nearby.
And then when they wanted to drive off, they were all really loud, which certainly helped my and Liam’s headaches.
We got ice cream that also helped our headaches.
We got home and then darkness and resting helped our headaches.
I actually had to take a headache shot just, uh, this Saturday, I guess was the day.
And I did that.
Um, so should prevent migrates.
However, this morning on the old Peloton, I was 10 minutes into a 30 minute biking class when I noticed, Hey, I’m getting one of these now extremely rare exercise induced migraines and my instinct, which is insane.
It’s always, Hey, I’m going to finish this workout because I want to get this workout in.
And after around 11 or 12, I was like, no, this makes no sense.
I should stop.
I should not complete today’s workout and be mad at myself for that.
But I should start taking immediate action to prevent the headache.
I have non-prescription medicine, AKA ibuprofen and prescription medicine, AKA, I don’t remember what it’s called.
And I can take that too.
And I did those things and I sat in the dark and I like did my morning bathroom routine with sunglasses on and I fed Liam breakfast with sunglasses on rice.
I’m going with him while he does breakfast, whatever it took him to the bus with sunglasses on.
And, um, after a little while I did get that migraine to abate, uh, why did I get that migraine today?
I don’t know, but, um, well, let’s play the loud rock shop show yesterday.
Anyway, that was my weekend into today and may all our heads feel better going forward.
Goodbye.
Lex.
Bye.
