Last night’s Avenue Q rehearsal went pretty late because we started pretty late because we were doing notes for the first hour notes Or really for the first hour and a half notes or when the director’s like hey from last night’s run Here are comments and it’ll go through the show in order because that’s the order in which the director took said notes and they are sometimes for an individual actor Sometimes for many people in a scene.

Sometimes it’s about blocking sometimes about line delivery You know Hey in This song or in this scene when you do this thing do it this other way or don’t do this thing or make sure you’re standing Over there, whatever went through those notes took a while.

So we didn’t start the run really until close to 840 and it’s you know, a two-hour plus show and we weren’t running it without Nonstop, you know, we were we were taking occasional pauses to fix things or identify new places for entrances Now that more of the set is built whatever so my point being rehearsal went late It’s fine.

It’s allowed.

I was totally on board with that But I got a note that is oh Boy It’s a tough note the day before when we got notes I got no notes, which to me meant I was doing everything perfectly turns out that wasn’t true I got a note.

It was a fair note, but a tough note Your Daily Lex Okay, so there’s this kind of quintessentially actor he joke what do I do with my hands What are you with my arms that actually sometimes don’t know what to do with their hands and arms?

Like do you just leave them there by your sides or whatever people who’ve met me in person or people I guess who’ve seen me Presenter see my video know that I’m a demonstrative speaker.

I use my hands a lot when I talk My dear character Brian Also uses his hands when he talks in part because I’m surrounded by puppets, right?

I want to give the human some humanity Have him using his whole body since the puppets have limited most of the puppets can just move one arm a couple of them can use two arms, but Because they involve two puppeteers Because you can’t have two arms controlled by a puppeteer and still control the mouth You gotta have two puppeteers.

Anyway, so I move my arms on and I got I got a note that I had to move my hands less that that a position.

I was sometimes resting in Was to mr.

Burns s cuz I kind of had my hands clasped in front of me a bit Huge gap by the way from my previous sentence to this one But the other note was you know that in a song one of my songs that I’ve seen each one of the character That I was using my hands too much Moving around too much.

No, I listen.

This is how I talk.

I understand I will change but it’s it is so funny though to get that note about hey Don’t use your hands or so much because actors hate to just leave their hands at their side because it feels weird normally in conversation, I don’t just leave my hands at my side, right but Some people do and it’s a choice.

And so now Brian who I am playing Brian is a pocket guy Brian likes to keep his hands in his pockets because that to me is an easy reminder not to use my hands as much I’m still using my head sometimes of course because I’m a human and not a robot robots famously don’t use their hands when talking But man, what a tough note tough note Anyway, speaking of theater, I’m gonna see a lot of theater this week And I’m seeing three musicals back to the future Kimberly Kimbo the Lion King I still know nothing about Kimberly Kimbo by choice I haven’t researched it at all other than to know that it’s a word wing and Spoiler alert, I have been told that back to the future the musical features a DeLorean, but I’m okay with that spoiler Anyway, that’s uh, it’s an exciting action-packed weekend.

I was also hearing from my kid who’s a camp my youngest and he was like Saying that he was struggling to get ibuprofen when he like me Liam gets headaches in the Sun sometimes and we told him anytime you need ibuprofen just ask a counselor and They can get you from the infirmary or whatever And he said he asked a counselor and was denied and as you can imagine my Overprotective dadness went into high gear and I reached out to the director of the camp the owner of the camp and was like isn’t Okay, if the kid needs ibuprofen get him I prove it and the director’s like you got it And he told me he cc’d a couple of the other head counselors including the one who apparently denied him So it’s gonna be fine.

It’s gonna be fine, but Hi dad protection vibes.

Anyway, hope you all have wonderful weekends and that you are not in any way akimbo and I don’t feel free to move your arms as much as you want because you don’t have a director telling you not to Lex
