Give My Regards
In general, my feeling is don’t make jokes about people’s names, particularly when you first meet them, but just in general People have probably heard the the joke you have about their name already.
Like if I meet somebody and they say oh like Lex Luthor I Often say something like oh I never heard that one before and they look really really and then they realize that I’m being a jerk and now we both hate Each other and it’s a great way But see I think that’s a it’s a thing to be careful about right people don’t want to hear the same joke about their name I’ve heard a thousand times.
All that said was my buddy Mick Murtha’s birthday today.
It still is and I wrote to Mick and said happy birth of the Murtha day, and he said that’s amazing I never heard that one and I love it and I was very pleased happy birth of the Murtha day So anyway, happy birthday Mick who I don’t think listens to this podcast, but I guess I’ll find out However after the theme song it’s time for a Broadway show reviews Your Daily Lex As we headed into Manhattan there was some debate About how we should get there.
Should we take the train from Metropark?
Should we take the train from?
Secaucus or should we simply drive in?
And late in the game the decision was made to drive in because that would make getting home easier Since there were limited trains after 11 p.m.
When the final show would get out.
So whatever so we drove in five stars to driving in one star to parking prices at garages in Manhattan, but anyway So we saw three shows in two days The first was back to the future man Back to the future was quite a spectacle and I can’t come up with a better word than spectacle It felt a little bit like Disney Imagineering.
It felt a little bit like You know a 4d ride It felt a bit like a magic show in some ways and then also obviously a musical this I’m gonna listen to the soundtrack again Because I want to experience it one more time But I would say that I didn’t feel like the soundtrack was memorable that the songs were memorable There were two things I liked from the songs one was they did include many of the songs that you know and love from the movie like Huey Lewis’s songs back in time and Power of love they have earth angel in there And Johnny be good, I guess but The hand they did a thing that felt very Lex like to me which is you know back to the future to get that theme done that I done done done done and They did try to add some lyrics to that like it’s only a matter of time or something and that felt like a thing I do putting putting words instrumental themes But the spectacle of the show is amazing, right there were some truly incredible performances The guy playing Marty McFly doesn’t a great Michael J Fox impression the guy who plays Biff I think is a better Biff than Biff like he’s more Tom Wilson like than the actor Tom Wilson But truly incredible and then like you’ve got a DeLorean you’ve got crazy effects you’ve got all kinds of stuff happening and and Doc Brown Is a Roger Bart is the actor just truly hilarious a really really funny performance really brilliant and he’s not doing a Doc Brown Impression.
He is not doing a Christopher Lloyd.
He’s making the character his own and he’s he’s really funny It’s just weird to go to a musical and not care about the music That part is what’s what’s bizarre about it, but the show is The the audience was energized from like minute one and it was It was great.
It was really a lot of fun.
Then I saw Kimberly Kimbo.
I wanted to Kimberly Kimbo knowing nothing I did not know the storyline and I guess I’ll give no spoilers here But I went in and at first when you know There’s a couple different kids who come on the scene and one of the kids is played by a woman who’s way too old to Be playing a kid.
I’m thinking wow, that woman is way too old to be playing a kid It turned out I was wrong, but that’s as spoiler early as I will get spoiler Spoiler early spoiler early boy.
Try saying that one.
Just pause right now and say spoiler early that stuff.
But anyway That’s a spoiler early as I will get but it was enjoyable.
I mean An emotional story but also so hilariously told like laugh out loud funny, but also poignant some really good songs truly great performances And you know, it’s still a cool set not as cool as back to the futures man back to the future set So, you know so many Broadway stages rotate They also added this giant screen But on this and back to the futures when the stage would rotate like the image on the screen behind them would rotate too So you really felt the movement was crazy.
Anyway, Kimberly Kimberly a Kimbo two thumbs up And then the last show we saw was The Lion King, which was fine.
It’s just not for me I went in knowing what was gonna be for me.
I went in with an open mind because I wanted to like it It was the most expensive of the shows we went to because it’s Disney But yeah Cool stuff some cool puppetry some cool costuming.
I just don’t care at all about The Lion King in any way, so it’s fine There was in the ensemble an extremely pregnant woman like maybe eight months Maybe nine months pregnant and she was you know as into it as every other performer And it was that was amazing to see like it would have surprised me none If she had paused the show to go have her baby And then it would have surprised me none if she came back and finished the show.
She was great.
Anyway It was fine Yeah, I guess but anyway, that was a my three Broadway reviews in just about five minutes.
Happy Monday Lex
