It’s Friday of a long weekend.

That’s an exciting day.

That’s an exciting time to be alive.

So happy long weekend to those of you who are in the U.S.

and have Labor Day Monday off.

My kids don’t start school until Tuesday, but also do start school on Tuesday.

Two ways of saying the same thing.

Basically, everybody else in the country has already started going back to school.

So my kids are among the last to start.

And it’s sad.

I don’t know.

I never like it when school starts.

Like, obviously, I want them to learn, get smart, educated, all those things.

But life is easier when they don’t have to go to school.

And it’s more fun.

I get more time with them.

So while I know school is good for them, I wrestle with it a little bit.

It’s true.

I’m also a little bit self-conscious today because I finally saw the Barbie movie.

That’s not why I’m self-conscious.

But Barbie wrestles with self-consciousness in that movie in a way that I appreciate it.

I really enjoyed the movie.

It was good.

I didn’t think they stuck the landing 100%, but it was a good movie.

I laughed.

I was, I think, the loudest laugher in the movie theater.

What are you going to do?

But so I’m a little self-conscious because I’m floating a thing.

Really, certainly, I welcome your opinions on it if you like this as a concept.

But it’s really for me to decide if I am comfortable with it.

And the answer is, I don’t know.

But what if I did Freestyle Fridays?

What if every Friday was a freestyle?

If I were really going to do a freestyle rap, I mean, inspired by my hero, Harry Mack.

If I were really going to do that, I would have to get topics from you folks.

But I did record a freestyle rap just before I started recording this episode.

And I’m going to put it into this episode.

And once again, I was using a random word generator.

I think a lot of the freestyle works.

I think there’s a couple of moments where it does not work.

And if you hate rap now, it’s a good time to stop unless you want to hear the theme song first.

But here’s the theme song followed by the freestyle, followed by whatever I say afterwards.

I really am self-conscious about the freestyle you’re about to hear.

So anyway, here it is.

Okay.

What if every Friday I start to do things my way?

I say it’s my freestyle day.

And you’d be like, okay, I hope you’re not disappointed.

Don’t feel like things too disjointed.

I hope that I can be anointed as somebody who can do this acceptably.

If it’s Lexi Freight and you’re thinking, hey, this is all right with me.

I really like the challenge of working my muscle, the freestyle muscle.

I gotta show that hustle.

Gotta do all the work.

Gotta put in the time.

Gotta figure out if I can keep on improvising rhymes.

I gotta see if I can keep the beat and keep the flow going.

There is no way to do it except for knowing that I can by doing it again and again.

I want you to be honest, even though you’re all my friends.

If you absolutely hate it, then feel free to tell me so.

But I’m thinking it could be fun on Friday.

So, you know, I’m going to the random word generator.

We’ll celebrate your turns if I get words that I can spit rhymes about.

And now the first one’s here.

It is image, which has actually given feet to me because I’m like image.

That’s a line of scrimmage.

I’m not sure I can really finish if that’s the word I’m using.

A picture is worth a thousand.

So if image is the word, then that’s arousing my mind to think of words that rhyme with image.

I guess they’re a flu, but my chances felt slimmish.

Anyway, I hit it again.

The word’s property.

That’s like the house you own, obviously.

But property is all the stuff you have.

All your possessions.

That’s my obsession.

So now I am confessing that I’m not really messing with your property because the law says that’s yours.

So it’s not for me.

But anyway, hit it again.

The word is rock star.

Yo, I could get mocked far and wide for attempting the freestyle thing.

But I really am enjoying when I’m making up the words that I am improvising off my head.

If you’re angry, then I suppose that you’re seeing red.

If you’re really frustrated, maybe you would wish me dead.

But I hope we’re throwing thoughts.

Don’t go that far.

I hope you’re Yeah, he could be a rock star.

And I don’t take rock star this for granted.

That was a pun.

So I quickly abandoned it.

But rocks.

I don’t know.

They make me feel bolder.

If you don’t like the word play, then cold shoulders what you’re giving me and I can live with that.

But I hope that you’re like, I appreciate the rest of the next word up.

It is called Versailles, a place that I’ve been in Paris, not pair.

I, if you’re not sure how to pronounce Paris in French, I’m here to teach you.

I’m your teacher.

Call me Miss Dench or whatever you want as my professor name.

But Versailles is the place and it’s got some fame.

It was a palace or I guess a castle living there could possibly be quite a hassle so many rooms to clean so many mouths to feed.

I guess it helps if money is what you bleed.

If you’re rich enough to live in Versailles, my guy, then I would try to say why can I come on by and be like, Yo, welcome, buddy.

My next word is hat.

Lex, what do you think about about that?

Could you had on a hat, wear a baseball cap?

Would you like to work hat into your rap?

I’m certainly aware of hats like a sombrero or maybe there’s a Fez.

I guess I could mention other hats you can wear, like maybe a fedora.

My favorite old school email app was you, Dora.

I can’t think of lots of words for hats right now.

There’s a baseball cap, but anyhow, I’d like to hit one more word.

So I’m pressing that button.

I’m assuming this web app’s gonna give me something.

The word is theater, which is often a topic here.

You know theater where you get up on stage and cheers come if you do a good job in the show.

And if people think, wow, that kid really has flow and they’re like, wow, you can go and Lex, you know, I really like when I see you at the theater.

I just did a show called Avenue Q and there’s another show I’m gonna audition for soon, but I haven’t discussed it yet because I’m not ready.

I feel kind of rusty.

Gotta dust off my nerves so I can do my audition.

I’ll try to do the part with tons of precision, but anyway, this was Freestyle Friday.

Hey, what do you say?

Do you wish you’d go away?

Because I had a lot of fun, even though it is a struggle.

If nobody likes it, then I guess that’d be trouble, but I’m gonna keep trying if people don’t hate it.

Hopefully Freestyle Friday is celebrated because I really like when I get to make up words and you get to listen to them.

I really hope that you enjoy it and you’re like, hey, I’m still the podcast friend.

It’s your daily Lex and this is the show and I appreciate you listening.

If you think I’m sweaty, bro, I’m glistening because this is high stress and it’s lots of work for me to do.

I really hope you’re like, hey, how did he do that?

It’s impressive.

I really like his skill and if you didn’t think so, then that makes me feel ill.

Let’s go.

Yeah, I’m doubling down what I said before.

There’s some moments there that work.

There’s some moments there that don’t.

Saying let’s go at the end though was an homage to Harry Mack.

He ends almost every of his freestyles, every one of his freestyles, he goes, he’ll typically tee up a rhyme for himself that’s like enjoy to make some noise.

So if you really liked it, then come on, make some noise.

Let’s go.

And then people clap and cheer for him and he’s like, thank you.

Thank you.

Appreciate y’all.

Appreciate y’all.

But he has a couple crutches at the end of each freestyle that Liam and I really enjoy.

Anyway, long your daily legs because I rapped for a very long time apparently.

Happy weekend.

Talk to you Tuesday.

Lex.
