Alright, it feels like forever ago since I last recorded a podcast.

Let’s get to it I have just about five minutes and the show is just about five minutes, which means let’s do the show Your Daily Lex All right, it’s time for casting updates audition updates And I have to be thoughtful about how much I share because people involved in the casting of these shows could listen so I’m gonna be transparent and candid, but I’m also gonna be Delicate let’s say all at the same time so Auditioned as he may recall for elf as buddy and I auditioned for Adams family as Gomez And I think I told you some of the story where I went hard in my audition for elf and I had shaved my face And I go in his buddy and I’m being a goofball and I’m dancing around the room I’m throwing candy to the production team and as soon as I finished they go Hey, could you also sing that song again?

Like you hate Christmas and the song was holly jolly Christmas So I had to sing holly jolly Christmas like I I hate Christmas and fine Then they asked me to stick around at auditions that show wasn’t doing callbacks So they should stick around and they brought over a guy and they’re like, hey, this is our buddy So, can you try being buddy’s dad Walter?

And I had to have this moment of middleman.

They said that it was an open audition This guy played buddy for them two years ago.

He was great And he they’re gonna have him play it again make sense But I had to get over a second of loss because I had tried really hard for buddy.

That’s the part I wanted Walter’s a great part.

I love Walter as a part, but he’s dad, but I had a you know Deal with that emotional pain and even frustration.

I would say I’m oh those girls basically precast So anyway, I did a good job at that Walter thing and then sat back and waited for a few days Then I was having the Avenue Q viewing party at my house when I got the email saying hey, congratulations You’ve been cast as Walter great.

I had already auditioned for Adam’s family too and I had auditioned as you may recall hard for Gomez.

I had done the song called I am al dolfo I had really put myself into that one the risk on that one with buddy Was I too young and then with Gomez when my too tall I couldn’t play any shorter than I am when I did the Addams family audition But I was called back and I was called back for Mal and lurch.

I had a audition process long fear of getting called back for lurch lurch is known especially for being tall as a my and He spends most of the show moaning he has a song but he mostly is like mute and groans and is dead and He’s funny.

He gets laughs but and it can be fun to play but it’s there’s not a ton to it I’m sure lurch actors would object to that characterization, but it’s it’s it’s not what I wanted to do Mal in the Addams family musical is the normal Put upon dad who visits the house.

He’s the father of a the guy who turns out to be Wendy’s boyfriend and fiance and It’s a fun part it’s Not unlike Walter in health.

It’s a buttoned-up dad who eventually has a What’s the word like a redemption arc of sorts in the show?

and The the callback notices came in around 230 in the morning, I believe 130 in the morning for callbacks that were the following that that same morning But Liam helped me out.

He helped me do the prep He played some songs for me because I didn’t there’s some of the songs in the Addams family touring musical are not on the Broadway Soundtrack like they really changed the show.

There’s a significant plot point in the Broadway version involving a squid That is almost entirely omitted safe for one mention from the the version of the show that we’d be doing So I couldn’t just listen to the soundtrack to learn these songs.

I had to have somebody played for me.

Liam helped me out And I went in I I did those songs.

I did really really well for now Like I can tell you that objectively I did great.

I did okay for large I was trying hard, but I had been working so hard on mal who sings tenor.

Hi That when it came time to sing lurch who sings very low I had blown out my voice a little bit so I could do some of those very low notes very quietly Which is not ideal fine, whatever But then I got cast in elf before I’d heard anything back from I was family So I reached out to Adams and I was like, hey, I am Doing elf.

I’m gonna do this Walter role because has elf is doing ten performances And as I’ve discussed like that to me is very exciting getting to do ten performances versus three or four with Adams But I said to them no matter what I don’t want that to discourage you from casting Sierra who had already auditioned and I am Willing to do both shows I work for myself.

I can make my own time I can figure it out So I’m willing to be in both if you would like to cast me I can work it out with the scheduling as best I can but I would have a lot more conflicts for rehearsals that I had initially said Said and stated which are the two words.

I tried to say once and I was like, no problem.

We’ll take a look We’ll consider it and then they waited days and days and days and days and days and casting notices started going out But not for now and not for lurch It was very weird and eventually they called him like yeah, we’re not gonna cast you because you have too many conflicts Then it turned out the guy doing those calls You know one of the a guy who I really like who does a lot of production work for shows at that theater He’s doing the part.

He’s doing now And when I’m recording this episode, at least they still haven’t figured out whose lurch is gonna be And there are a variety of factors and if you know me well enough to text me I can give you more context But there’s a variety of factors to play But it was a bummer and like he’s a great dude, and I’m sure he will do a great job with the part But it’s it’s hard to not get a part that I was excited about It’s very understandable because I do have a lot of conflicts And this is a little bit funny to lose it to a guy who also works on the production team for the show But he earned that that role fair and square so more power to him and I’m excited to see it and Sierra’s in it And now we have to drive her there all the time while also going to rehearsal for our own shows good stuff Anyway, that’s it for Tuesday.

Now, you know, happy Tuesday.
