Show Times
It’s Monday December 4th 2023 and it’s time for your daily Lex the show whose theme song sounds almost exactly like this Your Daily Lex So this past Friday night was a Elf’s dress rehearsal and the idea was it was an invited dress and when you have an invited dress, you know you invite some some friends of the theater some group or whatever to come see the show early while you’re still doing a dress rehearsal and I know when we did it for Avenue Q was a group of people dealing with AIDS and HIV And so there’s about maybe 40 50 people in the audience We get to the theater for the tech rehearsal the dress rehearsal Friday night And they say oh by the way, the sponsor has invited his whole team and all of their families So there’s 300 people in the audience That went from a dress rehearsal to a kind of another performance unless you’re you know The licensing agency for the show in which case no, it’s not a performance It was just a dress rehearsal, but that’s a lot of people in the theater holds 500 the whole run is sold out So 300 people’s was a pretty big show That’s helpful because you get to get some audience feedback and it also forced an issue that I really appreciated which was Every time we had run the show before we would stop the director would see a thing or the choreographers anything Hey, let’s work this section again.
Let’s try that again.
And as a performer I really wanted to get to do the show all the way through Because the invited audience was so surprisingly large We did exactly that we went all the way through which was great Then we had two shows Saturday and so show Sunday and for keeping score.
That’s four shows in the weekend And we’re doing that twice more next weekend and the weekend after It’s a lot of shows and so that really meant that our official opening was Saturday and we opened with two shows because we had the Saturday matinee and the Saturday Night Show and All the shows have gone.
Well, I have made Increasingly small or decreasingly large mistakes in the first show Not the dress rehearsal the first man day.
I I forgot to move at one point for an extra second.
It was fine and then in one show The pit moved that’s the band the orchestra.
They moved to the next verse of a song about two beats early And that was no good, but we caught up so basically I had to start singing that verse But I couldn’t start singing it until the line that cues it was delivered and they started playing it a little bit early I don’t think that I can’t imagine the more than 10% of the audience even detect any problem at all But it was resolved so quickly that it was fine That one was truly not my fault beyond my control And of course then I spoke to the musical director afterwards and before I could say anything She’s like it was my fault.
It won’t happen again.
Indeed.
It was her fault But it was her fault I’ve also started hearing from the misery team a bit who those were so start in January and It turns out that we will indeed have a rotating stage for that show which is How that show is typically staged and by typically I mean, that’s how I was staged on Broadway So I’m very intrigued to be on a rotating stage I’m also just about finished rereading misery the book.
I read the script I watched the movie and now been rereading the book man.
The book is horrifying The book is far more disturbing than the movie or or the play Annie Wilkes is Even more monstrous and commits even more heinous acts in the book than in these other versions of the story And I mean fundamentally it’s the same story, but man It’s it is far more of a nightmare in the book just to be clear That is a judgment call on the book versus the movie versus the play.
It’s just saying The scariest Annie Wilkes is the one in the book no question because that lady is crazy Of course the tough thing about having a four weekend.
Nope one weekend, but a four show weekend is You get a little less time with your kids because you’re away a lot But we had lots of plans for our kids in part because they have their own busy lives and in part because we sought them out We had their grandparents come visit them for some meals and then we were able to do dinner together last night Sunday night Which was nice, too So all that’s been good and then I will also share the start of what I hope is a soon-to-be-finished first worldiest of first world problems as Listeners of the rebound now.
I’m really eager to get a Rivian electric car and I had you know done my pre-order deposit months ago and They said The email Friday night while I was running the show I got an email that said I could now actually customize my my R1s and order it for a delivery in approximately four months and when I went to the site on my phone It would not work I could see the customize your Rivian page and then it would redirect back to like a hey congrats on your pre-order from many months ago and I Texted a friend who I know was in a similar boat and he said no I I Got through the pre-order process.
No problem.
I texted another friend my pal Brian who was like, no, I could build my car I just chose not to do it yet, but I couldn’t do it So I contacted tech support on Saturday and they said oh, that’s weird We’ll talk to engineering and they’ll get back to you Monday Then I contacted tech support again on Sunday and they said it looks like you talked to tech support yesterday check back Monday So I talked to tech support today and they said oh, you’re one of a couple hundred people having this problem They say it’ll be fixed today so far.
It’s still not fixed.
I just want to pre-order my car I just want to give them money in exchange for a car and I can’t do it So annoying anyway What a first world problem, I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday December 4th, and guess what we’ll talk again tomorrow Cuz that’s how this works Lex
