Last night on multiple social networks.

I started sharing a Scary situation in my home, which was that we I was putting away laundry in my closet in the primary bedroom When I heard something like pretty loud and then I heard a little more and then I heard a little more And so then I text Lauren who’s downstairs and like are you hearing that and she’s like hearing what like I think I’m hearing something upstairs like an animal in our attic and And I’m like unless there’s like just crazy wind outside.

There’s another with some crazy wind and I’m like, okay Well, I don’t hear any wind but I hear it and then I heard more of the noise I’m like wait Did you was there crazy wind just now and she’s like and this is all via text and she’s like well if you’re not hearing Any crazy wind in there, but you are hearing this other noise that’s concerning and no there wasn’t crazy wind just now So Lauren comes up then she hears it then we’re both freaking out and we’re hearing this thing sometimes kind of go crazy Like whatever it is is losing its mind trying to get out being stuck whatever and other times just kind of skittering about But it is not fun.

It does not sound small.

It does not sound like a mouse It does not sound like a rat.

It sounds big So I started talking about on mastodon and in a shameless attempt to boost your daily Lex listenership for no reason.

I Decided I’m not going to post what happened on mastodon.

I’m going to post a link to this episode So although I have some follow-up I want to attend to I will get that out of the way first so that I can put you Out of your misery, but first, of course, we need a theme song Your Daily Lex So I reach out to multiple companies that can deal with this one is our local exterminator and They call back at 830 in the morning and they’re like it sounds too big for us We only do mouses and rats mice.

We only do mice and rats So no and another company said yeah, we can come probably tomorrow.

I’m like, oh my god, and they’re like it’s Typically about $1,500 it’s $250 for us to show up and $1,500 for us to do the At a minimum to do the work you can put the $250 towards it but you know, that’s that’s the minimum for putting in cameras for setting the trap for getting the guy out there for repairing any damage that’s been caused and another company’s like We can come in two days and it’s $600 to get the animal out But we won’t go in the attic and we don’t repair anything So they were gonna set up like a thing where the animal could get out, but not go back in again.

Wonderful The more expensive company was available first and they came so they win the race and I show them this huge chunk of siding that’s you know been ripped from the side of the house Thanks to the recent storms and I said to them and I’d said to the person on the phone Look, it could also be the siding banging against the side of the house But like we heard a lot of sounds it’s like no I get it it’s like it happens like half the time It’s it’s other things and not animals, but let’s go look and he goes up there and he’s in the attic And first of all, what was layers is to a two-person team?

They go in there their protection is gloves and they open up my attic door wide and then put on their gloves So now the attic door is just wide in case some scared creature wants to run out and come skittering down into my laundry room And let’s long room door wide open.

So if that all happens like it’s going through the whole house great, whatever So it’s out it’s running around no, I’m just kidding it didn’t happen so they’re up there in the attic And they’re there for so long They’re there for long enough that I I text my pal Brian Warren and I was like Who do I call if they never come back down again?

Like who do I send it next is there a bigger exterminator or is it the police?

Eventually, they come back down and the guy’s like well, I Heard it when I was up there But there is no poop There’s no mess There’s no evidence and there’s no visual and there are no holes I checked everything all of your vents are perfectly, you know connected sealed whatever the right way And I realized it is in fact the sighting so this morning.

I woke up at 4 o’clock in the morning From the loud sounds of the animal up there that had been rambunctious all night long and was quiet during the day like a nocturnal Animal would be it’s also less windy today.

Hmm spoiler alert and in fact the problem was Sighting we were scared intimidated by sighting Interestingly, you know, I had various friends were like no you should go look during the night now I don’t know what I would have taken away had I been willing to look like I can’t find it That doesn’t tell me there’s nothing there, especially if I’m still hearing it but you know, I Had some friends who said they would look including aforementioned Brian Every professional was like you should not look now.

It’s also their livelihood for me not to look I guess but Many norms many civilians were like why on earth would you look like if the animal had rabies and bit you that’d be bad or If you let it out into your house, that’d be bad.

And I agree with them.
