Can you believe that yesterday’s your daily Lex ran for 10 minutes?

I cannot I was just texting with my pal Brian with whom I co-host Sorkin in it our podcast all about in season 1 the films of Aaron Sorkin and in season 2 the TV series the newsroom But I was telling him that when I do a 10-minute your daily Lex It feels like funny to me and almost like a foreign country where there’s some familiarity with some things like hey It’s still humans.

Like I still understand how stores work, but it also feels so strangely different 10 minutes my hunches This one will be shorter, but who knows let’s do it Your Daily Lex So, I don’t know exactly when this podcast turned into Lex’s theater stories all the time But it’s gonna be another one today because as I mentioned yesterday at great length apparently Yesterday was Fiddler on the Roof callbacks and I was indeed called back for The roles of Tevye and Lazer Wolf and if you’re not familiar with Fiddler on the Roof Just dedicate six hours to watching the movie and you’ll get caught up The movie is not six hours But at any rate Tevye is the far away the main male lead and then Lazer Wolf is another adult male lead There are some some young guys who are Pretty prominent roles as well, but I’m too old for those.

So Yesterday was callbacks and I was called back for both of those roles and I also had misery rehearsal So I was stressed out about that and I emailed the director and the stage manager to be like, hey This is gonna happen and I’d spoken to the stage manager in person and he’s like don’t worry about it But I was worried about it because misery rehearsal is just two people plus the director and I was like, man I’m gonna feel bad if I keep getting pulled out and When I got there, everybody’s like don’t worry about it whenever you have to go do Fiddler stuff go do Fiddler stuff.

Don’t worry about it So I would go in and do some Fiddler stuff and then they’d say okay can go back to misery for a while and I had get on the bed and we were working on some early scenes and do that and then somebody would come in and say we need Lex again and I would run down the entire length of the theater and then run over to the Rehearsal studio where they were doing these callback auditions and I’d be totally exhausted from running up and down the theater aisle in part because I would frequently forget my scripts and then have to run back and get them and Then run up a third time.

It was great It was a very high functioning brain for me at the time But then I would go do more Fiddler callback stuff and then I would go back and there was at least one time where and this really did happen You know, I’m running back into misery.

I leap through she’s she’s in the middle of doing the scene the woman playing Annie Wilkes I would get into the cot And I was like Annie, please don’t do this.

Wait a second.

That’s not right.

So But I literally was doing like my my Tevye accented Jewish voice In a misery rehearsal moment, which was funny to me and maybe wasn’t funny anybody else, but it’s funny to me But anyway, the callbacks were quite interesting, you know There were initially maybe six or so Tevye’s and several more laser wolves called back and there’s some overlap there so but at least six people who were called at least for Tevye and then at least four people were called at least for laser and Then some of those ten were called for both And then you know, we’re doing a lot because Tevye’s a big role so they have you sing a lot of stuff and do a lot of scenes and Eventually, I don’t even notice that this happens probably because I was you know I would normally when you’re doing callbacks at least and all the callback experiences I’ve had all the people up for the same role are seeing each other do the thing so like I do a scene as Tevye and then Somebody else says that scene is Tevye and the third person is the scene is Tevye But they kept dismissing me back to misery So I wasn’t seeing what the other people were doing Typically because they’d have me go early so that I could you know first is that I could go back to misery Which was interesting.

I didn’t mind it in some ways It’s an advantage to go first because you know They can’t think you’re copying anybody else in some ways This is advantage because it can’t see what other people are doing and see if there’s something you should be picking up on But it’s fine.

I didn’t even notice though at some point.

They had sent home a couple Tevye’s and others just for Tevye’s I’m like, all right made some progress and then at some point I Again, I didn’t even realize what’s happening until I saw somebody walking out.

I hadn’t seen them get dismissed at some point There were just two Tevye’s left.

I was one of those two Tevye’s the other one I will not use his name a very good guy Very talented actor also the creative director for the theater where the show is going up now sometimes he can be precast role and they always announce if a role is precast and in this case this role was not precast and Although he didn’t have to go to the initial auditions because they already know like he can act and sing and dance He had to go to callbacks and he was there the whole time But it’s interesting to be going up against a person who is also a figure of authority at the theater He runs the sound for every show that he’s not in and You know, I have not done any shows with him Lauren did a show with him.

She did Hunchback of Notre Dame with him But you know, he’s very good And it was just kind of a little bit of a head trip to be going up head-to-head against this person and we did two very different Tevye’s as far as I’m concerned I Really am I don’t know what the right word is Here are the words that I was thinking about that I’ve rejected in my house in my in my head I think I said house and at the same time.

So in my head house, here are the words that I rejected I’m Moved or odd or Inspired and I think the right word is affected.

I am affected by the idea of playing Tevye It feels like a big responsibility and that would be a big challenge and also a lot of fun So I’d love to do it.

Will I get it?

I don’t know could very well be the other guy But it’s gonna be one of the two of us.

So we’ll see I believe he only Listed on his audition form that he was willing to do Tevye.

I listed listed that I was willing to do Tevye and Laserwolf I don’t think that means oh, they’ll just make me be the one so he can be the other I think they’ll cast the person they want in the role they want.

So I’m cautiously optimistic and we’ll see we’ve got to pick back up on sharing songs from the new Liam and Lex album So let’s pivot to that.

There’s two songs left.

Here is the penultimate track.

It’s called.

Come on over One of the first tracks recorded for the album, I think He sings higher on it than I think he could sing if he recorded that song today So here is come on over track 12 from the album If you want to hear the whole album go to any place if you want to find links to your favorite music service go to lexfriedman.com slash world.

Happy Tuesday Weekends are the best We could do Lex
