I’ve been trying to record this episode since first thing this morning first thing for me this morning would have been 9 a.m but still I’ve been trying to record this episode all day and Work keeps getting in the way, which is a good thing overall.

But anyway, I got a new car Your Daily Lex I’d really like to get Tesla out of my life.

That’s not gonna happen in full but At least I’m not gonna have a Tesla as my daily driver anymore I got the Rivian r1s if you’re not familiar with Rivian, it’s a company.

All they do is make electric cars They started with a pickup truck the r1t then they took the front half of that truck and made it into an SUV Which is the r1s and I have one of those it’s electric blue.

I don’t know if they would call it electric blue In fact, I know for sure they don’t But I call it electric blue because that’s what it looks like to me.

I really like the blue.

I love the blue I think the color is very cool But you know, I had pre-ordered the car with a deposit about a year ago and then at the end of this past year They said hey you can start building your custom one and you know, you’ll have it in six months Then after you do that, they start emailing you saying hey, we have a couple abandoned cars That’s not what they call them You know people who pre-order and pre-build their cars and then decide to forfeit their thousand-dollar deposit and not actually take the car So they have extra stock of those that you can buy and have Sooner than you could your mate to order car and I kept rejecting those because they weren’t the exact one I wanted and then one came up that was almost exactly the one I wanted but with a quad motor Instead of the dual motor the quad motor is, you know more powerful in some ways and it also has worse battery life You know It’s slightly worse range because I guess there’s more power being driven to each of these motors each one controlling one tire or something I don’t know.

I’m not a science guy.

I’m a driving a car guy But so one came up that was exactly what I wanted the same interior and the same exterior color and all those things just with The quad motor instead.

I said, yeah, you know what I’ll do that and So I got it.

It was very exciting Picked it up on Friday when I went to pick up the car on Friday And it’s supposed to be a half an hour appointment The place where I was going to pick up the car is very far away from my house at least by my terms it’s a 90-minute drive and it was even slower than that because of traffic and Lauren was kind enough to drive me there So they saw that we had arrived in a Tesla and the guy who was my person, you know He’s not selling you the car.

You’ve already bought the car.

You’ve come having bought the car, but that guy was like Wanting to spend some time telling me about how to compare and contrast between Teslas and Rivians and what I would like more and things that he thought Rivian did better Although he acknowledged that they are fans at Rivian of Tesla So he wasn’t dissing Tesla per se but he was saying, you know, we do this better You have to get used to that we do this part better You have to get used to that too And he really spent a lot of time with us the half-hour appointment went about 90 minutes at one point He got Lauren a tea.

He got me First water and then I asked for a seltzer.

He offered a seltzer actually and I said sure that’d be great and he brought out A Celsius Celsius is not really a seltzer.

It’s an energy drink and it was 5 p.m.

At this point And I was like, yeah, sure.

Why not?

So I drank that whole thing that turned out to be a mistake my friends But so he really spent a lot of time and I was wondering should I tip this person and then I was chatting with Friend of the show below because I knew he had bought a Rivian somewhat recently Did you tip the guy and he’s like, no, I wouldn’t have that guy and Billo tips everybody And I decided eventually I would tip him because he was really being so thoughtful I had a list of questions I had come with and he was like don’t rush Let’s go through each one of them one by one like he was giving me all the time in the world so now it’s been two hours and They’ve taken the car back because he saw that it was dirty and he thought that there was a small scratch on it They were gonna buff out which they did So then he’s back and I hand him a 20 while I’m thanking him and telling him, you know Asking him who can I tell how great he was and he rejected the 20 And he rejected the 20s like no, no, no, I’m just doing my job and I insisted and he was like no no And then eventually he took it Um, but he was very grateful.

So then I felt good and then I got to drive my new car and it’s great Uh, it’s big.

It’s so big.

Oh my gosh.

It’s crazy It fits in my garage, which I was a tiny bit nervous about but it it feels like a truck.

It’s a big car That’s an suv.

Those are all the vehicles I know but um It’s nice being high up again The uh, the model x the tesla suv is you’re pretty low to the ground, but here i’m pretty high up Uh, the seats really fit me.

They fit me better frankly than the x does as a tall person and um, it’s really smart it has uh Amazon’s virtual assistant built-in, you know her the woman who has a name almost like mine I just don’t want to say it now because i’ll trigger a thing near me Uh, but you can tell that to you know, change the music or turn on various features or whatever Uh, and it has one of my favorite features from my nissan leaf of old Which is that it can give you a virtual overhead view of the car So like when i’m pulling into my garage where it is a tight squeeze I can see that I have room even though the car does not believe I have room the car is screaming It’s head off like oh my gosh lex You’re about to crash stop stop stop stop driving and it’s scary because those beeps are all going crazy But i’m just pulling anyway because I can see on the camera that i’m safe barely safe, but safe Uh, but yeah, it’s um, it’s been a lot of fun to drive thus far And uh, I have rehearsal tonight for misery and i’m excited because that’s a far drive and i’ll get to drive far in my car again Nothing.

I like more than putting miles on a brand new car.

But no, it really is a lot of fun I’m, enjoying the rivian very much Uh, and yeah, that’s my story Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful start to your week and look forward to talking to you again soon lex
