this story involves podcasters who are not on the show really there’s mostly every mostly ever mostly only ever one podcaster on the show and it’s me other podcasters who have been on the show include my pal Dan Morin my pal Jason Snell my pal Scott McNulty they’ve all been guests on this show as I have several of my kids but this story involves none of them instead it involves other podcasters who have never appeared on the show but you know who I know but I’ve started too far ahead let’s theme song it up your daily Lex I’m minding my own business as I so often do you might even say I always do it I always mind my own business both my Lex Freeman consulting business and my personal business I’m minding my own business yesterday when my brother-in-law Slavy texts me let’s do a quick sidebar on Slavy great guy solid brother-in-law good friend you know when I first met him he was Steve but Steve is his English Americanized name and he’s of Russian descent and so his his birth name isn’t even Slavy I think Slavy is a nickname for his birth name which is Yaroslav which I don’t really pronounce correctly but I tried hard so at some point in the past X years Slavy mentioned to me that he thought he preferred to go by Slavy so I started referring to him as Slavy and I put him in my phone as Slavy but everybody else including his wife calls him Steve and sometimes I say hey Slavy you told me you want to be called Slavy I was like yeah I do but nobody listened except for you so I call Slavy Slavy anyway Slavy texts me yesterday and he says are you friends with Mike Hurley actually he said are you close with Mike Hurley and he sent that via Siri according to my iMessage history and I replied as candidly and honestly as I could I don’t want to overstate my closeness to Mike but I’m on a texting basis with him and consider him you know somewhere between friend and acquaintance and seconds later my phone rings and it’s Slavy now I’ve known for a long time that Slavy is a big Apple nerd fan he listens to my Apple nerd podcast he listens to other Apple nerd podcasts he has frequently been amazed at some of those people I mentioned at the start of this show that Dan and Jason etc that those folks are my friend set but so he calls me and he’s like painting a picture with words like I do every day on this podcast and he’s like hey years ago I was on my honeymoon and I was in New Zealand and I’m on a tour bus and you know with his newlywed wife my sister-in-law and it’s like I heard two friends sitting next to each other talking about the new iPhone at length and one of them had what was maybe an Australian but now my memory was possibly a British accent and the other one was an American and they were talking about the iPhone in exquisite detail and whichever iPhone had been released at the time but they were really getting into nerdy detail on it and I was so impressed by their intelligence by their knowledge base by their opinions and they were really just having this conversation that I guess he was eavesdropping on but you know where he was getting into some some detail some insight of what they were talking about and he was impressed by it he’s like I didn’t think about it I didn’t know who those people were at the time but now in retrospect in my this is my brother-in-law talking and my kovat fog current brain because he’s battling covered it’s like I suddenly started wondering if it’s Mike and Steven who were having that conversation I was like well when was this and he gave me the dates and I say well I will find out I will text Mike and so I text my curly the following if you don’t know who Mike is by the way well first of all fix that and second of all he is the co-founder of relay FM and lovely guy and I wrote to Mike I have an extremely random question for you were you in New Zealand in late 2016 there is an insane reason for this bonkers question Mike replies this is great where they cry laughing emoji why I’m falsifying exactly what he said but that’s that was the gist and I said my brother-in-law today remembered overhearing blah blah blah and he suddenly became convinced that it was you and Steven and Mike said no I mean this could be a much better story if Mike had said yes that was Mike that was Mike and Steven or Mike and some other American we’re all interchangeable having this conversation on the tour bus way back in 2016 in New Zealand but in fact it was not Mike so I had a lit sloppy no and I said hey it wasn’t Mike and sloppy said damn thank you for asking you have the paid version of chat GPT right so anyway my brother-in-law sloppy is a non sequitur machine enjoy your Wednesday happy Valentine’s Day you crazy kids Lex
