That Was a Busy Week
I had a weirdly busy week for me last week, and a moderately busy weekend for me this past weekend.
But it was the kind of thing where last weekend, or nope, last week, I can do this, I ended up going out like every night, which is not my normal thing.
So it was interesting.
Let me explain.
So, you know as a regular listener of this show that I do improv with comedy sports here in New Jersey.
And I also do a long form improv group, that’s a much smaller group of five people, and we have performed one show, and I wasn’t at it.
We’ve been around for about a year and a half, and our practicing schedule is generally pretty light, mostly because we don’t perform that much.
And last year when they performed I could not attend that show.
I had other plans.
I think I was in a show of my own.
But this year we’re performing in Richmond, Virginia, and now one of us still can’t go to that show, but I’m not that one.
So Monday night, all of this to say, I had a rehearsal with that improv group.
And sometimes when you talk about improv rehearsals, people say, how do you do improv rehearsals?
And the answer is, you just go and you improvise.
You’re not rehearsing what your show would be, but you’re rehearsing the skills and the activities.
And it’s a lot of getting suggestions and doing the activities and all those things.
Good stuff.
So there was that.
Then, let’s see, Tuesday night last week I had nothing.
So that was my one chill night.
Then I had a band practice Wednesday night.
I had an Eagles game Thursday night where I went out with friends.
Initially I was just going to watch it at home, and then my buddy Frank was like, hey, what are you doing for the game?
And I was like, what do you suggest?
And so we went to a bar and then two other friends joined us.
Funny enough, Friday night I was supposed to go out with those same guys, and I did.
We went out to dinner.
And then Saturday night I had improv, really Saturday day and night, because it was comedy sports and I was running that comedy sports rehearsal.
Again, I’ve just explained how that works.
And then I was the ref in our match, which was fun.
Sunday I went to see Lauren’s show, and that was also fun.
It was an original play that Lauren was in.
The writer was there.
Frankly, the play wasn’t that good, but it wasn’t the fault of the performers.
The script needs work.
Not every play is good.
And that’s just how it goes.
But Lauren was good, so that was fun.
Our other big thing happening Sunday was that Sierra had to go to a Sweet Sixteen, and she had to get dropped off at a house in the morning.
Lauren handled that.
And then they had a party bus and a limousine to take all the kids from that friend’s house to the Sweet Sixteen, because the Sweet Sixteen itself was not closed.
Sierra told us afterwards that it was very fancy and that there was a cocktail hour and the food at the cocktail hour was amazing.
And the candle lighting was really, really slow because the girl was reading her candles, messages that she had written, and then ad-libbing more.
And I said, that girl should do improv.
And then the food, the main food wasn’t as good as the cocktail hour, but it was still good.
And the desserts were incredible.
And there was a chocolate fountain, and chocolate fountains are gross, but Sierra got there early before everybody tainted it with their gross fingers.
And they did not play Coke and Pepsi or any of those games, but it was still fun and there was a lot of dancing and Sierra enjoyed it.
And then we had to pick them up, pick Sierra up from this thing.
And I texted Sierra after Lauren’s play and was like, hey, what time am I picking you up at those people’s house?
And she said, 6 p.m.
So I got home from Lauren’s show, spent 15 minutes with Liam, and then who has a new gig that I’ll talk about probably on tomorrow’s episode, or maybe even Wednesdays, we’ll see.
So much to cover.
And so then I had to go to Sierra.
And then I got there, and I’m like, I text Sierra, I think I’m here, and I was there five minutes early, because I’m me.
I don’t see any other cars, though.
And Sierra’s like, weird.
And then I was looking at the calendar, I’m like, you have it on the calendar for 6.30, are you sure it’s 6?
And I also looked at Sierra’s location on the map from Find My, and she was about a half an hour away.
And she’s like, IDK.
And then at 6.15, another car showed up, and then at 6.20, more cars showed up, and then by 6.30, there were lots of cars.
And I had been texting some updates to Sierra and Lauren, saying, I think you maybe got this wrong.
I think it should be 6.30, like the calendar says.
And it became clear that I was right, that this was the case.
So then when Sierra does get there, I’m wondering, will Sierra apologize for giving me the wrong time?
Because she clearly had.
And she sheepishly did, unprompted, which was sweet.
Also the party bus comes.
And when I had parked, there were no other cars there, and I chose a spot that was going to be good and give the party bus room.
When others parked, they didn’t care about the impending party bus.
And so by the time the party bus could arrive, it had to really navigate quite a cluster of cars.
And I get Sierra, and then I want to go, and I’m very close to the bus.
I can’t really leave now.
And the bus driver sees this, and he’s like, I’m going to help you out.
And he moves some of these recycling cans that are out, and then he tells a couple other cars to move out of the way, because he’s basically stuck.
He’s gotten himself stuck in navigating all the cars who were stupid.
And I liked him, because he made it easy for me to leave, which I did, and I got Sierra home.
Anyway, that’s my story of my busy, busy week and busy weekend.
And like I said, probably Wednesday, I’ll tell you about Liam’s new gig.
So who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Hopefully.
Joy?
Lex!
