Listen, I don’t want to alarm you, but it’s an audition update episode.

So if you hate all the audition episodes, which nobody has said, but I like to be self-conscious about things for no reason and without justification, but if that’s not your jam, then skip this episode.

Uh, but here it is.

Audition updates, updates, updates, your daily Lex.

So here’s where we are in the narrative in case you’ve forgotten.

Uh, recently I auditioned for 1776, a show that I wasn’t super interested in, but that a good friend of mine, John encouraged me to audition for, and I was most interested in the role of Lee Richard Henry Lee.

And then I also had some interest in the role of Jefferson.

I mean, it’s not true.

I didn’t have that much interest in the role of Jefferson, although I listed it as one of the ones I would accept and was asked to read for it a lot at the climax, but then we kept my hearing.

And then my buddy, John got the role of John Adams, which he wanted.

And my buddy, Brendan got the role of Lee, which I wanted, but I still didn’t know if I were cast in the show or not, and then I wasn’t hearing, but nobody else I knew was hearing either.

It turns out that the director told those two people, uh, because he saw them a lot and didn’t tell the other folks who he was telling, uh, today.

Uh, but he still hadn’t told me if I was in that show at all.

I also had auditioned for fiddler recently and callbacks were a couple days ago, I guess last night callbacks were last night.

Uh, and in fiddler, I said, I would take the roles of Tevye or laser Wolf Tevye has a nemesis friend and Sierra Lauren and I were all called back and we were at those further auditions last night.

Now I’ll admit to you, dear friends, uh, we have some concerns about this fiddler.

One, they did not have very many men at all.

Obviously that could bode well for me, uh, but they didn’t have enough men to play all the, the love interests, the young men who, uh, woo Tevye’s daughters.

Uh, and we just weren’t, we don’t know what quality of the show is going to be.

Anyway, today we got the notices that Sierra who played Hava, one of Tevye’s daughters, the last time she did fiddler was cast as the fiddler, uh, still a nice role where she would get some dance features, but not the role she wanted.

Lauren got cast as Golda, uh, the main role Tevye’s wife, like the main female role.

And uh, I was cast as laser Wolf.

So the role I wanted was Tevye, but I said I would also take laser Wolf and that’s the one that they offered me.

Uh, so that was like, well, am I in 1776?

Cause that’ll affect my decision.

Cause we’re still just not sure about this filler.

I’m still not sure about this filler.

Uh, so I emailed the director, which is never the ideal thing to do, but I emailed the 1776 director.

I was like, Hey, I didn’t hear from you yet.

I know you were telling some people, but I just wanted to check.

Am I officially not cast?

Cause it’s going to weigh on my decision whether to do the show with this other theater.

And he wrote back almost instantly saying, Hey, you were great.

Uh, but based on the rules you listed that you would take, no, I don’t have a role for you.

And I haven’t told everybody what rules there are yet.

Okay.

So now there’s decisions to be made.

Um, will we do Fiddler or not?

I’m really going to leave that decision up to Lauren and Sierra.

If they want to do it, I’ll do it.

Cause it’ll be fun to do a show with Sierra.

If you rewind that, it sounds like I’m being a jerk to Lauren, which is not my intent, but I haven’t done a show with Sierra in a couple of years.

So I think I would do, if Sierra did, I would do it because it’d be fun to do a show with Sierra.

If Sierra didn’t do it, even if Lauren did it, I don’t know if I would do it because frankly, childcare is easier if Sierra doesn’t do it.

If I don’t do it and Lauren does it.

So I got to figure that out.

But on the flip, I will admit I’m a little bit.

Frustrated for a while on this show.

When I would talk about auditions, it was a lot of success stories that he’d have new queue and elf and misery and bat boy.

And then I struck out on a different Fiddler on the roof and Greece and a play about a dog and you’re a good man, Charlie Brown and Anne Frank.

And now 1776, uh, one, two, three, five of those are at the same theater, uh, the theater where I did the other three shows that I just mentioned or three of the four shows that I just mentioned.

So I don’t know.

I’m bummed about that.

I don’t have anything insightful to share about it.

You can’t get every role.

Even if you’re great, you might not fit for whatever reasons, but I’d like to fit a little bit more sometimes, you know, just, just human nature.

I guess it’s the worst part of acting.

It’s why I don’t understand how anybody ever does it because like when you get rejection, it’s horrible.

Uh, but, uh, it’s not a reflection on you except it totally feels like one it’s reflection on whether you’re a fit for however they see the show.

I just think sometimes they’re seeing it wrong.

You guys, that’s, that’s my take.

Anyway, remains to be seen what will happen with Fiddler, but I assume we will decide tonight.

And, uh, yeah, that’s all I got.

Happy March.
