Liam was faced with some tough decisions, uh, you know, here where we live, you can apply to different high schools that are all public high schools and he applied to several.

He got into all of them, uh, including the most prestigious one, which is high tech high, where you can take classes on like biomedical engineering and programming and robots.

Uh, but he also got into the music video and production high school where you can do music and music production, things that he’s very interested in and it was really wrestling with which one to choose.

I posted about it on Macedon and got a bunch of great feedback.

He was talking to us about it and he was really struggling.

He could not decide your daily Lex.

We were out to dinner a couple nights ago and he’s like, okay, I have made a decision and that decision is, and we’re all leaning in and he’s like, I still don’t know.

Um, so he really struggled.

I will save you all the back and forth.

Um, he did end up going with MVP, which I think is the right choice.

Um, he was worried that saying no to high tech high would be a mistake because it’s the most competitive one.

It’s the hardest one to get into.

It’s a bunch of really smart kids go there.

But when I said to him, the argument that I made to him overall was first, he couldn’t make a wrong decision, right?

He could go to either one and he would have a great time.

He would do really well.

He’s a smart kid, whatever.

But that, uh, for some people, I was even talking about some of his siblings, specifically his sister, Sierra, uh, that, you know, if you want to be an actor, which Sierra currently does, you need a backup plan.

You can be the best actor in the world and not get parts, uh, cause it’s not all up to you.

And so actors typically, um, many of them at all, uh, we’ll have some kind of backup plan.

Like here’s something else I could do.

If that first thing that’s my dream doesn’t work out.

When I said to Liam is I don’t think he needs a backup plan for music.

I think he can do music professionally.

That might not mean being a rock star, uh, but there’s lots of other careers in music and I think even lucrative ones that he could get.

I was saying to several folks recently that I think there’s a decent chance Liam ends up scoring TV shows or something.

I don’t know unless it all goes to AI, but he’s really talented.

And my point to him was, I think given that you should do music and go to the music school cause it’s still going to be very academically rigorous.

They have all the same kinds of AP classes.

You can even take, um, various computer science classes there at the music video production school.

Um, but that’s music video and production, not production of music videos.

Um, you should have as many music teachers as you can, uh, and just live and breathe music and get different takes.

Like he and I are getting pretty proficient in the logic.

And I know that at that high school they use pro tools, great spend more time with pro tools, which you’ve only ever used at summer camp, uh, learn different making techniques and play in bands with people who are super talented, like do all those things.

Uh, and even after he pushed the button, well, it was really funny because there was a Google form you had to submit and he decides, okay, I’m going to say no to this one.

I’m going to turn down, turn down high tech high.

Uh, and he puts his finger on the button and he clicks it.

And then Lauren had not successfully filled out the Google form.

So I was like, Nope, you have to complete this other field.

So it was this big moment.

And then it’s like, maybe it’s the sign, right?

Nope, it’s not a sign.

Just we didn’t fill out all the fields.

But so he’s made that call now.

And afterwards he was like, I don’t know, I hope it’s the right call.

And I believe it is.

I also told him and believed there was no wrong answer, right?

If he chose high tech high, he’d do high tech high things.

He could still do plenty of music on the side, but I pointed out to him that many, many people who do high tech careers, uh, haven’t gone to a high tech high school that he can still study anything he wants on his own, on the side or in college.

And this doesn’t limit him in any way.

But man, the kid loves music.

He lives and breathes music.

So I feel good about this call, uh, worst case I’ve ruined his life forever, but that’s a very worst case, right?

It could be better.

It could be better.

We shall see.

Anyway, I have felt behind on everything all day, even though I’ve done a million things.

So that’s it.

You only get these four minutes of me, but I love you and we’ll talk soon Lex.
