Liam & Lex's Versions
It’s one of those times, folks.
It’s one of those times on the show where I just start sharing songs because it’s an easy way to fill episodes.
Plus, I like talking about the songs.
It’s kind of fun.
But yes, indeed, my new album with Liam, or really Liam’s new album with me, is out today.
It’s called Blueprint, and it’s available wherever you stream music.
You’ve got to search for Liam and Lex, the Anderson ampersand.
If you can’t find it in your favorite music service, well, one, you’re bad at searching.
You should work on that.
But two, just go to lexfriedman.com slash blueprint or go to liamandlex.com.
No matter what, I’m confident you can find a way to find this album.
But it’s called Blueprint, and yeah, it’s out today.
Plus, my oldest got into yet another college today.
It’s a good day.
It’s a real good day.
That’s all. As I’ve said many times, I love releasing albums with Liam.
I like the fact that he likes to record songs with me, and I’m going to keep doing it for as long as he wants to keep doing it.
As always, he does the vast majority of the music I do, the vast majority of the lyrics, and we collaborate.
And one struggle has always been, what the heck do you write about?
And so this album, as I’ve said, has songs about robots and pie and pizza pie and pie the number.
The first time I said pie was about pie the food.
I don’t know if you could tell that from your ears, but it’s silly and it’s fun.
We got rejected when we submitted as a children’s album because the one song that Liam wrote himself includes the phrase go to hell, and apparently you can’t have that phrase in a children’s album, which I understand.
So now we’re comedy and rock.
That’s how we do it in the Friedman family.
Normally, I talk about a track from when I have a new album out, whether minor, what I do with Liam.
I talk about the tracks, and then I play the track.
So get ready, because when I play the track, you’re probably going to want to put it at 1x, but that’s entirely your call.
But today, I think, to kick this off, I’m going to play two tracks, because the first two tracks of the album are called Let’s Ride.
The first one is Let’s Ride, Lex’s version, and the second one is Let’s Ride, Liam’s version.
And what we mean by that really is he wrote Let’s Ride.
I wrote the lyrics, and then he wrote the music.
I was like, why does it sound like this?
He’s like, what?
And I’m like, this is a song about your love of roller coasters, and you made it sound like angry rock.
I don’t know.
I can’t even compare it to an artist.
One friend of mine locally compared it to Phish, but to me, it sounds like angry rock.
And I’m like, why?
He’s like, because that’s what I felt.
And I’m like, bro, I think if I were writing this song, it would sound different.
He’s like, do it.
Also write it.
So I wrote my own version.
And I played a couple of instruments, but then he played most of the instruments and made it sound way better.
He added some solos, added a much cooler piano part.
So we thought it would be fun to lead off with two versions of the same song.
So it’s the same set of lyrics, just done very differently.
Two totally different interpretations of the song.
Liam does love roller coasters.
These are our second and third songs about roller coasters, because we had a song about roller coasters in a prior album.
So anyway, here is the first track, which is Let’s Ride, Lex’s version. Roller coasters, please.
That’s what this guy needs.
I want to feel the breeze.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Roller coasters, please.
We’ll be high above the trees.
The safety bar hurts my knees.
But pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Some with big loops.
Some with fast drops.
Corkscrews and launches.
I love them a lot.
Roller coasters, please.
That’s what this guy needs.
I’ll pay any fees.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Roller coasters, please.
We’ll fly like on trapeze.
It’s easy as ABCs.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Some with big loops.
Some with fast drops.
Corkscrews and launches.
I love them a lot. Inching towards the peak.
You might hear me shriek.
Because now we’re going down so fast. Roller coasters, please.
I’m begging on my knees.
I want to feel the breeze.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters. So I wrote that one after Liam’s, which you’re about to hear.
But his request was to put mine first on the album and his second.
So here’s track two, Let’s Ride, Liam’s version. Roller coasters, please.
That’s what this guy needs.
I wanna feel the breeze.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Roller coasters, please.
We’ll be high above the trees.
Safety bar hurts my knees.
We’ll fly like our trapeze.
It’s as easy as ABCs.
So pretty, pretty, please.
Let’s ride some roller coasters. Inching towards the peak.
You might hear me shriek.
Because now we’re going down so fast. Some with big loops.
Some with fast drops.
Corkscrews and launches.
I love them a lot.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters.
Let’s ride some roller coasters. Let’s ride some roller coasters. Alright, Taylor Swift, it’s your turn.
We’re happy to release Taylor’s version at any time.
