Tyrannosaurus Lex
What a special time of year this is on the Your Daily Lex calendar, because I was just thinking to myself, what am I gonna record about today?
What am I gonna talk about in Your Daily Lex?
Then I remembered, wait, I’m going through the new album, the album Blueprint from Liam and Lex, which you can find at every music streaming service that exists, I think, at least all the popular ones.
But anyway, that’s what I’m talking about, so I don’t have to have a topic, because I already have a predefined topic.
It’s the new album Blueprint.
Yesterday we covered both versions of Let’s Ride.
Today we’re going to talk about the song Who’s Tommy? Your Daily Lex So first of all, yes, the title is a reference to The Who’s Tommy, because we think we’re funny.
As I have often discussed, you gotta come up with what the heck can you write songs about if it’s going to be sung by a 13 or 14 year old boy.
And dinosaurs came to mind, and I wrote lyrics about Tommy T-Rex.
And originally it was called Tommy T-Rex, and then at some point we changed it to Who’s Tommy, because we think we’re hilarious.
And boy, this song is so funny to me in a variety of ways.
One, the lyrics are incredibly stupid.
Liam had an idea for what to do at the ending of the song.
I guess I’ll give you a spoiler.
At one point, at multiple points, the dinosaur who sings the song, Tommy T-Rex, he just wants to relax and watch the meteor shower.
And at the end you hear an explosion, I guess, as the meteor shower happens.
And the explosion makes me laugh so hard, because it also includes glass breaking.
So this is a very modern world that the dinosaur is in, because glass exists and can thus break from a meteor shower.
Tommy is a T-Rex.
He’s friends with Ted the pterodactyl.
And in the lyrics, if you look at those as you’re listening, because they should show up in most apps, Ted is spelled with a silent P in front.
Again, because we’re idiots.
There’s one line in the song that Liam recorded earlier.
Most of the vocals were re-recorded.
There’s one vocal that’s from his very first scratch track.
And honestly, you can hear his voice change in the song, because there’s this one line when he says near the end of the song, my name is Ted, and I’m a T-Rex.
When he says, and I’m a T-Rex, it’s like a younger sounding Liam.
And it cracks us up each time.
We left it that way just because it is so silly.
But the whole song is silly.
And boy, it makes us laugh.
And I certainly think that Liam’s, I don’t know, orchestration, his songwriting on the music side of this one is crazy.
It’s got some real funky things happening, but it’s cool.
And this song, I think, is also Ani’s favorite.
When we played it for Ani early after that song was written, which was last summer, Ani laughed out loud repeatedly.
And what better compliment can you get than that?
So anyway, here from the album Blueprint by Liam and Lex is Who’s Tommy? My name is Tom, and I’m a T-Rex.
The whole world is mine to rule.
My friends call me Tommy T-Rex, which I think sounds kind of cool. I’m a dinosaur, and that’s for sure.
I’m friends with Ted, the pterodactyl.
We like to run around and play.
We’re pals with Ray, who is a raptor.
We hang out most every day. I’m a dinosaur, and that’s for sure.
You’ll hear me roar forevermore. Nothing will ever slow me down.
I’m a huge Tyrannosaurus.
I’m big and huge, and did I say big?
I can’t describe myself more till they invent a thesaurus. Nothing will ever slow me down.
I’m a huge Tyrannosaurus.
Everyone loves me dead and right.
It’s a fact that I’ll address. I think that all of you should run away.
If you don’t, I’ll eat you here today.
I think that you all should run away from me.
Go away, please, let me be. My name’s Tom, and I’m a T-Rex.
I love my T-Rex power.
I think today my friends and I will sit and watch the meteor shower. Here’s a dinosaur, and that’s for sure.
You’ll hear me roar forevermore. I’m a dinosaur.
I think that I would like some time alone.
Don’t hang around, don’t text my phone.
I’ll borrow all you spokes of power.
Now I’ll relax and watch the meteor shower. Now in tears.
Now in tears. Well, he really made me sing very high in that song, and it’s not the only time on his album that Liam made me sing very high.
Anyway, that song is ridiculous and hilarious, and that’s all I got.
Tomorrow we’ll go to the next track.
Get ready.
And again, stream the album wherever you want.
It’s fun.
More soon. Lex!
