Cookies, Cupcakes, Candy Cane
I’ve left you hanging, and I’m sorry.
You deserve better.
I talked last week, I guess, maybe even the week before, about how I was scheduling a friend date.
There was a parent of one of Sierra’s friends, Sierra has a friend, whose dad it seemed like I had a lot in common with.
He makes games.
He likes the Eagles.
He was friends on Instagram with my favorite teacher from high school.
And so eventually I reached out and was like, we should have a friend date.
But I never told you how the friend date went, so I’m going to do that and share the penultimate song from the album Blueprint by Liam and Lex.
Your daily Lex.
So we met for a drink, which was funny because I don’t really drink very much right now on my weight loss journey.
I’m down 39 pounds, but who’s counting?
I don’t really have the room for the calories that alcohol involves.
And there’s this separate problem of alcohol affecting how your body burns calories, particularly when you’re fat loss phase.
So it’s the whole thing.
I’m not a scientist, but I’m not drinking that much.
So I met for a drink and I was early.
He was late.
Fine.
I didn’t hold it against him too much, although I mentioned it to you.
And I ordered myself just a club soda with lime, thinking that it would look reasonably like a drink.
He got there, he got himself a beer.
Great.
Then the bartender comes over one point like another club soda and another beer.
He looks at me like, uh, I was like, oh yeah, I’ve been working on losing.
So I explained the whole thing, but it was funny because I had tried to pass it off as if it were a drink without saying that it was.
Um, anyway, we had a nice time.
As I had known from my stalking of him on the internet, he was one of the inventors of the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon back in the early nineties.
And that was one of his big claims to fame in life.
Um, and we had a nice time.
Good guy.
Um, we, uh, agreed that we should see each other again at some point.
I think I’m going to leave that in his court right now.
Not that I’m opposed to reaching out again, but, uh, he was pretty eager to meet up again.
So I’m going to see, uh, what happens.
He also sent a very nice text after when he got home.
Uh, so it was a good time.
So I’m sorry that I left you hanging.
Uh, and now I have told you it went well.
Um, I think at some point we also have to do the thing where like he meets some of your other friends and vice versa, because, uh, you know, friend circles.
They’re good.
They’re good.
Anyway, the penultimate song on the album blueprint by Liam and Lex available wherever you stream music.
It’s a little song called I’m hungry and its first verse is indeed about pie keeping up with our pie sequence on the album.
Now this one has a very interesting to me, at least origin story.
I wrote I’m hungry when garage band came to the iPad.
So a long time ago when garage band came to the iPad, I really started playing with a lot and thought maybe I’m going to record an entire kids album using garage band for the iPad.
And I recorded three songs and then that project kind of ended.
Then I had Liam and, uh, or probably Liam was already born.
I don’t remember what year garage band for the iPad came out and I’m too lazy to look it up.
But at some point when Liam and I started doing albums together, that was more fun.
So, uh, I’m hungry is a good song.
And Liam and I talked about what if we made a Liam and Lex version of the song.
So I’m actually going to play you like the first verse and chorus of the original.
And then I’m going to switch over to the updated one.
Liam did all the music for the new one.
I had used some of garage bands like virtual instruments where I could just pick the chords and then it would play them.
He recreated some of that.
The other thing that he did, which I had asked to do was it was there was too much or not enough.
Let’s go with not enough.
There were not enough breaks in my original version of the song was like, and this is a problem that I have with songwriting.
I’ve been working on fixing, but it’s like lyric, lyric, lyric, lyric without like intro or melodic instrumental bridge in between verses or between verse and chorus or whatever.
And I was like, we got to break that up.
I think he did a really nice job of that in the first half of the song.
I love this song.
I love what he did with it, but I would say that I think that some of the solos and bridges in the Liam and Lex version get a little bit too long and it’s okay.
But so first here’s a clip from the original I’m hungry by Lex Friedman.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
Chocolate pie, pumpkin pie, any pie that you could buy.
Cause my stomach’s feeling grumbly.
I got to put stuff in my tummy.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some cake.
So yes, the second verse takes a turn, a turn from pie to cake.
Anyway, here’s the Liam and Lex version.
Like I said, Liam re-recorded everything.
Brand new vocal recordings, brand new instrumentation, all the instruments played live versus being virtual garage band instruments.
And it’s a better version of the song, no question.
And just also listen to his very first piano solo between the first verse and second, cause I love it.
I think it’s my favorite solo on the album.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
Chocolate pie, pumpkin pie, any pie that you could buy.
Cause my stomach’s feeling grumbly.
I gotta put stuff in my tummy.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
Yes, I think I want some pie.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some cake.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
Yes, I think I want some cake.
Ice cream cake, seven layer cake, any cake that you could make.
Cause my stomach’s feeling empty.
And good cake sure could help me.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some cake.
I’m hungry.
So hungry.
Yes, I think I want some cake.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want to eat.
I’m hungry.
So hungry.
Yes, I think I want to eat.
Cake, cupcakes, candy cane, marshmallow, toast and plain.
Popcorn, pretzels, candy bar, even Brussels sprouts and steak tartare.
What the heck is steak tartare?
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some snacks.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some snacks.
Healthy snacks, gooey snacks.
Snacks are what my belly lacks.
So if you want to please me, I think you ought to feed me.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some snacks.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I think I want some snacks.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
I’m hungry.
