Show Enough
It’s time for some life updates, my friends.
Let’s do it.
Here we go. Your Daily Lex So the musical went well over the weekend. There was debate about whether the Sunday matinee was going to get canceled because of the nor’easter affecting New Jersey and other states. In the end, the show went on, although it was tough because the show, as you may recall, takes place in a church. Both the show itself takes place in a church and our production was in a church. But the church is not really equipped to be a theater.
We fake it. And that means we can only exit out of one side of the stage or we can exit out the aisle. And if you exit out of one place and enter from the other place, you have to go around the church outside. So that was a little bit crazy in the rain and wind on Sunday. There were many umbrellas in both exits so that you could go from one to the other and drop your umbrella off there and then use another umbrella in theory when you went back. Some of the actors were switching into boots and then running holding their shoes. I didn’t do that.
But it all went well.
The show was good. I was glad to do it and glad for it to be finished. It was a fun weekend and a fun production.
And I was pleased with what I did. It’s rare that I say yes to roles that are more ensemblish than anything else because it was a small role for me.
But that worked out just fine in this case because I didn’t have to learn too, too much.
And I got to play three different characters and that was fun too.
I liked giving them each their own voice and personality. Anyway, that was good.
Tonight I have a callback for the play same time next year, which is based on the Alan Alda movie.
I don’t know what came first actually, the play or the movie.
But I’ve seen the movie.
The play only has two people in it, the guy and the girl.
I’m auditioning for the guy.
And the callbacks were supposed to be last week.
I had auditioned via video and then they said, hey, we’re doing callbacks this past week.
And I was like, I can’t, I’m in tech for this other show. And they’re like, well, we really want to see you.
What if we postpone callbacks to next week? I’m like, well, that seems like a good sign.
So at any rate, I’m going to those callbacks today. Even though they wanted to see me, I don’t think that means I have any special lead into it or anything because I have no idea how many men they call back.
And again, they’re only going to ask one guy.
So we’ll see.
I love doing small shows.
The last one I did that was so small was Misery and that was so much fun.
I just like when there’s no net.
All the other actors are a net and when it’s just you and one other person or you and two other people.
I like that kind of stress. That’s fun.
So I got that.
You know, you may remember like a week and a half ago, I did this urine test where I had to collect a whole bunch.
The weird thing about that urine test was this was my second urine test for the kidney stuff.
But this time it was like really science-y where I had to put like the special preservative in and they have to put the actual preservative bottle into the jug too so they get every drop of preservative.
So you’re putting in the jug, on the preservative bottle.
That’s great.
But anyway, then you have special instructions on how you call FedEx to pick up the sample in the package.
The package backed up.
It goes to a lab core.
Lab core studied it.
Anyway, lab core sat it for several days and still hasn’t posted results anywhere that I can see anyway.
So I’m curious to know if they intend to.
We’ll see, I guess. If they don’t, I’m going to do that test all over again, which is extremely annoying. So we’ll see how that goes.
In other news, Sierra has a babysitting gig for another house in the development.
Those are the best kinds of babysitting gigs because we don’t have to drive anywhere.
The annoying thing is that, and the helpful thing I guess too, but the annoying slash helpful thing is that babysitting clients like to pay you via Venmo and Sierra doesn’t have a Venmo, so they pay me via Venmo.
Now I got to pay Sierra and that’s like a giant pain because I’m getting it in Venmo, which is fine, but she wants cash.
I don’t always have cash.
I don’t have that level of cash. So it’s a whole thing.
These are good problems to have, I guess.
Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful October 14th and more soon.
Lex.
