Blizzed Out
I know two distinct things to be true.
One is it’s not that interesting to listen to other people complain about their local weather, especially if it doesn’t affect you.
Two is there’s way too much snow on the ground, like just an obscene amount.
As you may recall, we’ve gone through a couple different plowing companies, and this was more snow than there was ever a chance I was going to deal with on my own.
It was more than two feet of snow.
I was not shoveling that.
And we had the plow company that came through last time, so I was in contact with them.
I also gave them out as a referral to many other families.
The good news is they did plow us out, eventually.
Your Daily Lex I had texted them before the first flake of snow fell.
I was like, hey, I’d love to have you come again.
They’re like, yeah, no problem.
You’ve been great.
And then, you know, the day’s progressing, and I check in a couple of times.
We’re still coming.
We’re still coming.
And eventually they say, oh, yeah, we’re not going to come until overnight.
I was like, okay.
I had told them I didn’t have a rush.
I didn’t have anywhere to be on Monday, but I was like, I want to be able to get out of the house Tuesday.
And they’re like, no problem.
We’re going to be in your neck of the woods overnight, Monday to Tuesday.
I was asleep when they came, so I woke up and had to check what they did.
And I really wanted them to come during the day for a variety of reasons, including so they could see better, and so I could talk to them, because I’ve never spoken to them in person.
Because last time and this time, they’d left a whole bunch of snow directly in front of my garage doors.
Now, my driveway is shaped with a right angle into the garage.
And I think that—I don’t even think it’s a maneuvering of their plow issue.
I think it’s like more of what—how to—I think it’s a logistical problem of how to get to that snow that’s piled up in front of the garage and move it out of the way.
But some houses have it done.
I can see.
I think it might mean you have to jump out of the truck and use a shovel.
But they’re leaving that snow.
Now, in the end, that was only about 15 minutes of shoveling work, maybe even less, 10 minutes of shoveling work for me, max, to clear out the space in front of my garage and in front of Lauren’s garage.
But still, I’m paying them to do it.
And also, they did not do the path at all.
So I wrote to them.
I was like, hey, I guess since it was dark, it was hard for you to see the path.
But as we discussed both last time and this time, we wanted you to do the path and the driveway.
And she’s like, I’m sure we can get back there to do the path.
That hasn’t happened yet, so we’ll see.
I guess they’re waiting until the middle of the night again.
But Sierra and I went to the gym today.
I had to work from home.
I mean, I always work from home.
I had to work out from home yesterday.
I had to use my dumbbells, which I haven’t used in eons because I’ve been going to the gym.
It was not as good a workout.
And so today, Sierra and I went to the gym.
It’s not a strength training day for me today, so I mostly just used the treadmill.
I also felt like I got some strength workout from the shoveling I did.
But yeah, it’s too much snow.
And it’s so sad because the snow had really just melted around here.
There was still some, but we could see all the lawns again, and it was nice.
And now it’s going to be forever that we’re covered in snow.
It’s actually more dangerous than normal because the snow, there was so much snow that it’s piled up so high at all these intersections that you can’t see when you’re turning.
Like, you do not have a line of visibility because of how high up the snow plows have piled the snow.
So that’s fun.
To her credit, my daughter, Sierra, is like, yeah, I don’t even know if I want to drive in this when I can drive.
I think I might want to wait until some of those snow piles have melted down a bit.
And I thought, hey, smart.
You’re a smart kid.
Because she is.
Anyway, I think that’s all I got.
The snow is really dampening everyone’s enthusiasm for everything.
But as of today, we’re really starting to leave the house again, so that’s something.
And in fact, in just a couple minutes, I’m taking Liam to rock shop so he can practice with his band.
So getting out of the house, that’s all I care about.
I hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday and that if there is snow in your life, that it’s melting as quickly as you’d like.
Goodbye.
Lex.
