Toilet Issue
Here’s a weirdness of mine.
I use public bathrooms.
I don’t think that’s weird.
I think many people use public bathrooms.
I use public bathrooms.
I can handle it.
But at home, if others have been over and used my bathroom, I clean it before I use it again, which is insane.
It is insane behavior.
I think I overuse the adjective unhinged sometimes, but I even think it maybe is unhinged behavior.
But if we’ve hosted people and they’ve all used my bathroom, like the basement bathroom is my go-to bathroom.
It’s my favorite bidet in the house.
There are two active bidets in the house.
But if I use it or if I’m going to go use the bathroom and I know that friends have been here, I’ll wash it down first.
And yet if I need to use a bathroom in public, I’ll just use the public bathroom.
I’ll use the ridiculous toilet seat cover thing if it exists.
And I know the science on toilet seat germs and how the toilet seat is typically less gross than the sink.
I don’t like touching the sinks either, but it’s such a weird thing of mine.
Good friends can be here and they use the bathroom.
And when I’m going to use it next, I wash it down.
It’s crazy.
We do clean the bathrooms on the regular anyway, but I do an extra clean after friends have been over.
I can’t explain it.
I’m not proud of it, but I thought about admitting it on the show.
And now I have.
There’s no additional point to that story.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to regale you with more bathroom stories unless there’s hefty demand.
Anyway, what else can I tell you?
Well, I’ve already talked a lot about my app Gnome for creating and sharing GIFs, searching for creating and sharing GIFs.
And let the record show it’s now also available on iPhone and iPad.
Go to lexfriedman.com slash gnome.
Or if you want to go directly to the app store at lexfriedman.com slash gnome slash app and we’ll take you right there.
Today has been a busy day at the Friedman household because the AC people are here for our summertime tune-up and they take a while.
And they always have things that they say we could do.
And this time it was like, well, since some of your equipment is older, it might need new batteries.
And I was like, what do you mean it’s older?
You installed everything that’s here and in the past couple of years.
He’s like, oh, well, I just meant.
And I’m like, yes.
It was weird.
It was awkward.
So now I don’t know what to do.
But luckily I have internet friends who know everything there is to know about furnaces and air conditioning units.
So I’m going to get some extra opinions.
It is fun working on this Gnome app and I’m getting so much feedback.
I’m getting so many emails.
And a couple of very prominent Apple bloggers, by which I mean one, sent me some unsolicited feature requests a couple of days ago.
So I have hopes that that means they’re going to write about it on their hugely popular website.
We’ll see if that happens.
I’m also working on another app that’s much more niche.
And I have, you know, I’m building it for me.
If other people can use it too, wonderful.
But I have a weird gig coming up.
A local-ish cover band had been connected to me and they have a gig coming up at a bar very close to where I live.
Like I sometimes walk to that bar or walk to the shopping center where that bar is.
And they have a gig there when their male lead singer isn’t available.
They have two lead singers, one male, one female.
Could I fill in?
And they sent me the set list and I knew some of the songs.
I didn’t know some of the songs.
We tweaked it a little bit.
I have a bunch of songs to learn, which I’ve been working on.
But I was thinking about how annoying it is to like scroll through lyrics on an iPad because I’ll definitely have to use an iPad for some of these songs.
I just don’t know them well enough.
Even if I learn how they go, I’m not going to learn all the words.
But so I was worried about that and I was like, you know, it’d be so helpful if these could advance on their own.
And there are various teleprompter apps and stuff, but I wanted something that felt like it was built for singers in bands because it’s so popular for singers in bands to use iPads or phones.
So I set up a thing, an app that I’ve been working on that’s working pretty well for me where you can have a set list that’s in files.
So you can use Dropbox or iCloud, whatever.
And then it’ll scroll the lyrics for you as you sing them.
It listens to you and as you say the things, it scrolls.
So you can have it scroll other ways without listening to you too if you prefer, but I’ve tested it in noisy situations.
It works with singing, not just with speaking.
And so, so far it’s been pretty helpful as I’m working on learning these songs.
Proud of that too.
It is hilarious to me how much of my time is spent working on apps.
I also still have my regular job and that’s going quite well.
But man, the apps are fun.
I think they’re fun because I work for myself.
I don’t think it’d be fun to make apps for, you know, somebody else.
Anyway, that’s all I got.
I hope you’re having a wonderful May 18th and we’ll talk soon because that’s what we do on this podcast.
