It’s a little bit chaotic here.
I don’t know how loud it is for you on the recording.
I’m doing a lot of audio filtering, so maybe you can’t hear all the noise, but there’s a lot of noise here.
It’s the, I guess, third and final phase of the kitchen work.
It’s like some new cabinets and removing all the old cabinet doors and replacing them and painting.
Like, it’s a lot, and it’s loud.
And to keep things very clean, which means they also vacuum all the time.
So anytime it’s even, like, quiet for a second, then it’s loud again.
Your daily Lex.
Anyway, I’d love to tell you about the weekend that wasn’t and the week that is.
I don’t know why I talk this way sometimes.
So we had this nor’easter here over the weekend, and I guess I can tell you what happened.
Friday, we were supposed to do nothing.
That can’t possibly be true.
Oh no, I know.
Okay, so Friday, Liam had a football game.
He’s, you know, the saxophone section leader for the marching band, so he had that game, which limited the things that we could do because we had to drive him to and from that game.
But then because of the forecasted weather, the game got canceled, and that meant that we could— You know, I’m wrong about this.
The game didn’t get canceled.
We kept thinking the game would get canceled, and it didn’t get canceled.
Other stuff got canceled.
Okay, now I’m sad.
I could delete all that, but I won’t.
He still had to go to the game, and then, like, in the end of the third quarter, it started raining, so they had all the kids put the instruments away and sit on the bus.
And then it stopped raining, so they had the kids get out of the bus, but without their instruments, so they just sat and watched the game without instruments, and then it started raining on them again.
Very stupid.
Anyway, that was Friday.
But Liam normally plays at the restaurant.
He plays at a restaurant where he plays piano in a little jazz trio or quartet, depending on the day, on Sundays, and that got canceled for this week, not because of the weather, but because they were having a private event that didn’t want the band.
Great.
Because we didn’t have to take Liam to that thing on Sunday, it gave us more optionality for some stuff.
And whatever the reason, we decided that we were going to go see a show on Friday night.
We were planning to see that show Sunday afternoon because that’s when it worked most easily.
But with all the schedule shifts, we could go on Friday.
So Sierra and Lauren and I went to see a production of the musical Pirates of Penzance, not the opera, but a musical based on the opera.
And my friends who were in the show were good.
The show itself is weird, which they know.
Anyway, we saw that.
That was Friday.
And the weather was not great.
And I love to park in the spots that are right in front of the theater, the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank.
There’s two electric vehicle charging spots, but they were both taken.
We had to park really far away and walk in the rain.
It was fine.
Everything was fine.
But then we get to the rest of the weekend.
And Saturday was my big game show.
I was hosting a game show with the theater that runs comedy sports here in New Jersey.
We’re calling it the All New Game Show, which I find funny because it’s old game shows.
But I’m the host.
It was supposed to be Saturday, and then we canceled it because of weather.
And the folks who are in charge of comedy sports in Shore Thing Theater really did not want to cancel, but all the participants in both the comedy sports match and the game show wanted to cancel because the weather sucked.
And mostly we were worried nobody’s going to come.
Even if we can somehow safely get there, nobody’s going to go.
Weather was flooded on those roads or not was less relevant than the fact that it’s called Ocean Grove.
Like the town the theater is in is Ocean Grove.
It is by the ocean.
Some roads were flooded.
You could get there without going on flooded roads, but who wants to risk it for improv?
Nobody.
Literally nobody wants to risk their lives for improv.
And if you think you do want to risk your life for improv, think again.
So, yeah.
Anyway, we ended up turning Saturday into mostly a lazy day.
Sierra and I went to the gym, but then it was all at home.
And we even did some fun family bonding.
Not with Ani, of course, since Ani’s at college, but we played Mario Kart together and then some Jackbox games together, and it was a delight.
Sunday, we had a whole lot more nothing to do, and boy did we.
We crushed that nothing.
And then today, of course, it’s the kitchen craziness.
And then tonight, I’m supposed to have rehearsal, which was going to stress me out because the Eagles also play tonight, and I was going to miss the first half of the game while at rehearsal.
Except yesterday, the director sent out an email saying, I only want these people for rehearsal.
I don’t need these other people.
And Lauren and I are two of the people he doesn’t need, which means I don’t have to go to rehearsal tonight.
Since I had a lot of the weekend free, I did spend a lot of time working on my lines.
I would not say that I’m locked in yet, but I’m close.
I’m definitely supposed to be locked in, and I’m trying to be locked in, but I’m not there yet.
There’s still some lines that I’m really struggling with, some stuff that I’m finding really difficult.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m old or what, but it is annoying to not be great at it.
I would like to just have it on lock, and I don’t.
Anyway, those are my complaints.
Those are my updates.
I hope you’re having a wonderful Monday the 28th.
Oh my gosh, September 28th.
That means it’s just exactly two months to my birthday.
Start planning now.
Goodbye.
Lex.
