Contractor Beam
I am pleased with the people doing work in my kitchen, and I am confident that they know what they’re doing.
And I even think they intend to communicate well.
That said, they do not communicate well.
Your daily Lex.
There’s nothing new to complaining about contractors not arriving at the times they say.
That’s fine.
The first day they told me they would come between 8:30 and 9, and people came between 9 and 9:30.
Really, they came at 9, and then the next group came around 9:45, and that was annoying, but fine.
I had—and as a recap, we already did the floor.
We did most of the backsplash, and now it’s the tweaking of some cabinets and shelves, like building some new stuff in there and painting all the cabinets.
And Donna, who’s the person I text with from the company, was like, You’ll have full access to your kitchen for Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday and Thursday, don’t cook anything.
Don’t expect to cook anything.
Except Monday, the first day, they suddenly taped over all of our cabinets.
And when I say taped over, I mean like super taped over, because the painting process involves a lot of spraying, and so they want to make sure they don’t get paint anywhere where it shouldn’t go.
And so they do an incredible meticulous job of dextering up the home to block any place paint shouldn’t go.
Yeah.
So they taped all over everything, and I was like, Oh, well, we now can’t get to our dishes or pans or whatever.
And they’re like, Well, if you need to get into anything, you can cut a slit in it, and then we’ll tape it up again.
We didn’t really want to do that.
So we couldn’t use the kitchen yesterday.
We went out to dinner.
Not the worst thing ever, but not the plan.
Then today, I had luckily removed some things before they did all this, not knowing they were going to do this.
I had just removed some things that are my typical breakfast ingredients, and the fridge was still accessible.
Difficult, but accessible.
Difficult to access because it’s a Sub-Zero fridge that has, like, cabinet doors, and they had taken the cabinet doors off.
So now to open it, you have to use, like, your fingernails, and it’s tricky, but you can do it.
Today, as they were doing more work, they did even more taping over everything, more Dexter prepping for murder or painting, and that included covering our pantry and the fridge.
And that’s a no-go.
Like, they had to warn us before they did it.
It’s crazy to me.
They wouldn’t say, Hey, we’re about to do this.
Is there anything you need?
One of the things that we need is our dog’s insulin, which is kept in the fridge.
Well, so, and our dog’s dog food, which is kept in the pantry.
And we’re like, Hey, just so you know, we’re going to have to cut those open.
And they’re like, Oh yeah, we should have told you.
We’ll cut them open for you, which they did.
Insane.
And, you know, we have stools in the kitchen, two kitchen counter stools, and they match the old cabinet color.
And Lauren said, Let’s find out what they would charge to paint them with the same paint they’re using to paint the cabinets.
And I said, I would find out, but I had every expectation that it would be insane.
Insane is such a vast understatement.
I don’t remember exactly what we paid for those cabinets back in the day—not cabinets, the stools back in the day.
My guess is around $70 a stool on the high end, maybe a little bit less, maybe a little bit more, but I think it was probably around $70.
They quoted $1,300 to refinish them and paint them anew.
We’re not going to do that.
Either I’m going to find somebody who can paint them cheaper.
I’m going to try painting them, which I probably won’t do because, let’s face it, I won’t do a good job, or I won’t do a good enough job, and buy new ones, because all three of those options will be less than $1,300.
Crazy.
Anyway, tonight’s dinner involves ordering from the pizza place, although I’m not eating pizza because I am disciplined and I am on a cutting phase, and yeah, it’s great.
Everybody else will enjoy pizza.
I will instead not enjoy pizza, which is an alternative.
Yeah, I think that’s all the updates I have.
I have this app that I’m waiting for Apple to approve, or at least review, and they haven’t reviewed it for more than four days, and it’s really annoying.
I’m very excited about the app.
I don’t think it’ll do nearly as well as, say, Strategery, which already had a massive amount of built-in fan base and users excited for something to change.
But I’m enjoying this app a lot.
It’s a game.
I’m playing it all the time.
I’m having fun, so whatever.
I would just like it to get reviewed so I can see what they’re going to reject it for the first time around, and I can fix those things.
That’s all.
Is that so much to ask?
I don’t think so.
Anyway, I’m still working hard to learn my lines for the show.
We have a rehearsal tonight of acts one and three, and boy, oh boy, I am still feeling like I have at best a B minus on these lines.
I’m trying.
I’m really trying, but I don’t feel great about it yet.
Anyway, that’s all I got.
Happy Tuesday, everybody.
Hope you’re doing great.
Goodbye.
Lex.
