Everything But The Kitchen
So we ran acts one and three last night at rehearsal for Noises Off.
Act two, the whole set flips around 180 degrees, and so you’re seeing everything backstage, and it’s got a lot of shenanigans.
That’s what I call it, the shenanigans, because you’re hearing the play happen on the stage, which is now facing away from you, and you’re seeing all the backstage quiet shenanigans.
And it’s crazy.
But anyway, to avoid having to flip the stage in the middle of rehearsal, we did acts one and three, and then tonight we’re going to do act two at least twice.
I was pretty nervous going in because I’ve really been struggling with the lines, but it went okay.
I wasn’t the worst.
I don’t root for anybody to be the worst, but I wasn’t the worst.
Anyway, I will freely admit that one of the things I did to prepare, well, you know, as you may recall, I record all my lines, I listen to them over and over again, I was reading them, I try to get people to run lines with me, but nobody in my family wants to do that.
So yesterday I also did spend a little time working on an app to help you run lines.
Some apps exist for this, but they want you to record all of your lines and you hold down a button while you record them, like if they’re your lines and you let go if it’s not your lines that you’re saying, and then it just plays.
It’s, I don’t know, it doesn’t work the way my brain wants it to work.
So I recorded—nope, I didn’t record anything.
I worked on an app that I could just feed in the script in typed form to, or screenshots and photos that it OCRs, and it asks you what character you are, and then it starts reading your lines with text-to-speech, and then it listens to you and transcribes them.
It’s easy for matching your lines.
So should I have spent more time just practicing the lines and working on the app?
Probably.
But did the app also help me study those lines?
Yes.
So it went pretty well.
We’ll see how tonight goes, because tonight’s a whole different beast.
Your daily Lex.
Mostly because I don’t know how to memorize this.
This stuff is just gestures, you know, movements, miming, basically physical stuff.
So I don’t know exactly how to memorize that stuff.
At first I was going to record all my movements and just listen to myself telling me, do this, then this, then this, but that seemed crazy, so I’m not doing that.
We’ll see how it goes.
What else can I tell you?
I’m on day five of waiting for Apple to even look at an app that I’m trying to get approved, and that’s really annoying me.
And the kitchen project remains in full swing.
They’ve made a bunch of progress, but they keep having to, you know, paper over or plastic over large sections of the kitchen, which is annoying.
We did make them give us access to the fridge and pantry yesterday, which they had to seal up again today.
But I got to have a little bit more real food today, which was nice.
I am defining real food as food from my house versus from a restaurant.
And listen, I love restaurant food, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a lot easier to do my controlled eating and calorie counting when I know exactly what was made, unless it’s from a restaurant that tells you exactly the calorie counts.
I love that.
I mean, obviously no calorie counts are entirely precise, but I really appreciate when restaurants put their calorie information up there.
Super helpful.
Also, if I could invent hardware, which I cannot, and if I could invent hardware that could do things that I don’t believe hardware today can actually do, the thing I want to invent is a device that tells you the actual calories you’re consuming, ideally some other macros too, especially protein.
But one of the hard parts of calorie counting is that you have to estimate a lot of things.
Like you got to weigh the food if you want to get really precise, but even that is imprecise.
Boxes, packaging of food are imprecise.
And then when you get stuff at restaurants or when you bake stuff, cook stuff, whatever, like it’s all getting— There’s a lot of fuzziness, and I wish I could be really precise about it.
That would help a ton for me.
So I want advice that’s like a wearable or something that monitors the actual calories going into me.
I don’t think science supports being able to do that.
I wish it did.
I just got interrupted by the kitchen guys who let me know that tomorrow they will finish all the painting.
So that’s exciting.
That means all the plastic will come down, and we can start putting stuff back in the kitchen.
That’s very exciting.
It won’t be finished until the following week probably, but the painting part will be done.
Hooray.
Anyway, that’s I think all I got.
I got so much going on.
You’re wonderful.
Have a great day.
Goodbye.
Lex.
