I’m a little hoarse, by which I mean I’m a pony.

So funny.

I’m a little hoarse.

Lauren and I assume we have just slight colds.

Hard to say.

I feel fine other than being a little hoarse.

I do yell some in the show, but I don’t think that’s what I was—I don’t think I hurt my voice.

I think, I don’t know.

I don’t know.

Anyway, I’m a little hoarse.

What a great intro.

Also, it was opening weekend of Noises Off this past weekend, and how did it go?

I’ll tell you.

It went pretty well.

Your daily Lex.

So it’s live theater, and of course things can, and sometimes do, go wrong.

But the audiences have been really loving the show, and it went very well overall.

The last show of the weekend, the Sunday matinee, an opening scene got a little bit crazy, and I’m out there in the audience when the show starts.

I start in the house.

One day I was sitting right behind two theater friends of mine who didn’t realize I was behind them until just before the lights went down, and I was so hoping I could startle the hell out of them because they weren’t going to see me, and then I was going to be yelling from behind them, but then they saw me.

But yeah, that scene where I start in the house and I’m directing actors on stage, and the audience doesn’t know that I’ll be doing that until a couple minutes in, things got a little wacky where basically the actor on stage is supposed to do something wrong, and I correct them, but she didn’t do the wrong thing.

She did the right thing.

And then it’s like, well, now what do I say?

But we found our way through.

There was a moment when the next two actors come out on stage, when they knew we had already used some of the dialogue we intended to use once they joined the scene, and I just saw the looks on their faces as they came out, like, What’s going to happen now?

And I tried to project calmness and confidence from my seat in the house, but we got through.

We lived.

But it was good.

There’s a lot of shenanigans that happen in the show, as I’ve talked about, including a bottle of liquor that gets tossed about, and we have some incredible throws and catches, like truly mind-blowing, that it gets thrown and caught.

Literally, where people are saying, Are there magnets in the bottle?

because of the way it seems like lock onto people’s hands.

But of course, one of the early shows, the bottle flew off the edge of the stage, and then one of the actors simply dived right off the stage and grabbed the bottle and got it back on.

And because the show is full of things that are meant to look like they’re going wrong, anything that does go wrong doesn’t matter.

People just assume it’s supposed to happen that way.

Funny, but it went well.

And shout out to my friends Andy and Jill, who didn’t just come and see the show; they brought me Hot Tamales and Fireball whiskey because they know I love cinnamon-flavored things, both candy and liquor.

Let’s see.

I waded into a morass on the internet over the weekend.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, kudos to you.

If you do know what I’m talking about, what a hoot to have everybody write to me and tell me that I’m super right and great, and then some other everybody write to me and tell me that I’m super dumb and wrong.

The internet, everybody.

So that’s been fun.

What a hoot.

Yeah.

What else can I tell you?

My kids had a half day today, and I always think that when my kids have a half day, they would greatly appreciate if it was the second half of the day and not the first half of the day, because now they still have to get up at 5:30 in the morning or whatever, and that’s terrible.

Tomorrow is my day to get up early with the kids, which I will, and that makes it bearable that I have some really, really early calls.

I have a couple calls with the UK, and the times that they offered—the UK, the entire nation offered me these times—but the times that were offered by the company I’m meeting with were comically early here in New Jersey.

But I was like, you know what?

I’ll already be up because I’ve been helping the kids, so fine.

It’s not a gym day tomorrow, so I’ll be home.

I’ll go get some steps in the basement, and then I’ll come up and do this call.

Will I have showered before the call?

None of your business.

And no.

What else can I tell you?

I don’t know.

Oh, I got to FaceTime with Ani yesterday in school, and, you know, one of the things we had pushed Ani on for this year at Emerson was, like, really should be finding more social things to do, find more clubs.

And Ani joined this book club and has several friends in it, met several new friends in it, and so I was like, hey, I did some good dadding there.

So way to go me is my point.

And in a week from today, a week from today, Ani will be 20, and that is insane.

There are many things in my life that help me feel old.

Having a kid who is 20 will be high on that list.

Anyway, I hope you’re having a great Monday.

Don’t be the central character on the internet, and stay good.

Goodbye.

Lex.
