I’m old.

I’m specifically old because I have a 20-year-old now.

Today my eldest, Ani, turns 20 years old.

There’s plenty of things that make me old, but the fact that I have a 20-year-old is high on the list of things that make me myself old.

Your daily Lex.

It was a good weekend, a good closing weekend for Noises Off.

You might hear, since you know my voice pretty well from listening to the show, that I’m a bit hoarse.

And that hoarseness is because my character of Lloyd in Noises Off yelled a lot.

So I’m a little hoarse.

The most exciting of all the shows, the last show was my best one, but that was the time I really felt locked in.

But the most exciting of all the shows was one of the two shows on Saturday.

I actually can’t remember which one now.

Two-show days are crazy.

But I’m back there doing the show, and I hear somebody’s mic is messed up because I start in the house, as you may recall.

So I’m in the back of the house, back of the audience, and doing my thing, and I hear somebody’s mic is messed up.

And then eventually I realize it’s my mic that’s messed up.

And then all of a sudden, a person from the sound booth is, instead of being in the sound booth next to me and holding out a new microphone.

Now, luckily, because I sit in the back of the audience, nobody is staring at me while this is happening.

But now I’m delivering lines while they want me to be changing my microphone, and I’m kind of thinking, I want you to change my microphone?

Like, hey, can you do this?

And the person there was like, Hey, I’d like you to change this microphone.

So I’m trying to silently communicate, No, you do it, while they are silently communicating back, No, you do it, which meant that I did it.

So I’m delivering lines and also, like, sliding the mic pack out of the mic belt and then showing them, like, You’re going to have to take this cord off of me that’s taped to me in various places.

Like, you got to unwire, because I’m still delivering lines.

And all I’m thinking is, I want to not mess up lines.

I don’t want to get confused by the fact that I’m now thinking about two things at once.

And I did not mess up lines.

Then they hand me the new microphone.

I eventually show them, You’re going to have to snake this through my shirt.

I can’t do this while talking and sitting here.

So then once that’s done, you know, the mic cord is there against my face, and they’re handing me pieces of tape, and in my head I’m thinking, You tape it.

Like, you can see, I always tape myself in the mirror.

I can’t do it, but they were handing me tape, so I taped myself up.

But anyway, it was okay.

There’s no great method for how do you change a microphone of a person who is, in theory, in view of the audience if they were to turn and see.

But I got it changed, and boy, that adrenaline rush was great.

It reminded me so much of a scene that I referenced afterwards that nobody was commiserating with me on or remembering with me.

But in an episode of The West Wing, Jed Bartlett is going to do a presidential debate, and he’s not feeling the fire.

He doesn’t have his lucky tie, and his wife Abigail Bartlett, the First Lady, cuts his tie when Jed is called to the stage for the debate.

And there’s a quick rush scramble to get Josh Lyman’s tie off of him and onto the president so that he can be wearing a tie when he goes out.

While Jed calls his wife crazy, she knows, rightly, that that adrenaline rush will be good for him in the debate.

And I felt like I had that, like this crazy excitement of changing out my microphone while delivering lines gave me a lot of energy for the show.

So it was fun.

But the show went well.

We’re supposed to have one more weekend next weekend, but they canceled that a while ago just due to lower ticket sales.

We ended up having mostly good houses for the show, which is good.

But yeah, although I don’t like when you lose out on shows, I also don’t mind that I’m done with the show.

It’s okay.

It’s okay.

We did two weekends, four shows each weekend, and it’s a tiring show.

You might even say exhausting.

So it’s done.

I was proud of what I did, and on to the next thing.

So eyes in the fire on that front.

I’m also, I went to a read-through last night after the final show for an independent film that I have been asked to participate in, in which I am playing the part I was born to play: sexy vampire.

Anyway, happy birthday to Ani, who does not listen to the show and is now 20.

And happy birthday to all of you, whether it’s your birthday or not.

We’ll just celebrate everybody.

But seriously, I hope you’re having a great Monday, October 19th.

And if you haven’t yet, check out my latest game in the App Store.
