Sunday, as you’ll recall, as a careful listener of this show, was my final performance of Noises Off.

Yesterday, I was cast in my next show.

Your daily Lex.

What show is it, you ask?

I mean, just calm down and I’ll tell you.

No, I, uh, Arsenic and Old Lace.

A very close friend of mine is directing it.

He really wanted me to audition.

I don’t think I would have auditioned were my good friend John not directing it, but I’m glad I did.

And it’s the first show that he is directing at this theater, and I love the guy, so I’m excited to do it with him.

Arsenic and Old Lace.

There was a movie of it as well, and I watched the movie several months back in preparation.

And I’m playing, I’m playing the bad guy.

The role on Broadway was originated by, originated by the actor Boris Karloff, and the script makes frequent references to the bad guy looking like Boris Karloff, specifically to having had surgeries, plastic surgeries, facial reconstructions that made him look increasingly like Boris Karloff as he tries to disguise his identity.

And it was an in-joke in the Broadway production because it was Boris Karloff.

It didn’t play as well in the movie because it wasn’t Boris Karloff.

The theater wouldn’t let Boris go do it because they thought he was the big draw for Broadway.

So I think my friend is saying I look like Frankenstein.

That’s my take.

But no, rehearsals start in a week or two, I think.

I don’t know.

So we got that.

That’s exciting.

The show itself isn’t until January.

It’s the same slot where I did the show same time next year, last year.

So a slot I know well, I guess.

I don’t know.

But that’ll be fun.

And Lauren is in the show too, and she plays my aunt.

And we’re all murderers.

So, yeah, good stuff.

What else?

Once again, I shoved my way into an internet fight of sorts, I guess.

I mean, I don’t think Gruber— so sometimes I do the show and forget that some people listen who aren’t chronically online the way I am in the Apple nerd community.

But John Gruber, prominent Apple blogger, keeps posting about how X is great.

I keep posting about how, no, it’s not actually.

And early this morning, or maybe last night, he had a post about how, well, Barack Obama just put a statement talking about horrible things about the Trump administration, and he posted his thing on Twitter, so that means— or X, so that means X is good.

And I posted a response this morning being like, no, it doesn’t mean that.

And, like, when Gruber is encouraging people to go use X, he’s encouraging them to use it, right?

Like, to engage, to communicate, to go with back and forth, which is bad because there are so many bad people on there.

And if you are non-white or non-straight or non-binary or trans in any way or many, many kind of minority statuses, you get a lot of hate directed at you almost immediately on X.

And John, who is cis, straight, white male, doesn’t experience that.

So he’s like, it’s great here.

It’s not great there.

And then his, again, his argument this time was, well, Barack Obama posts there.

Barack Obama, somebody from his team posts there, first of all.

And second of all, he’s not engaging, right?

He’s not, like, interacting with people or dealing with it.

When you look at his posts and you look at the replies to his posts, it’s filled with really hateful things.

Barack doesn’t see those.

So my point was, one, it’s a broadcast medium for those folks, so they’re not using it as a social network.

And two, it makes more sense.

It makes sense for Barack to post on X in the hopes that maybe there’s a tiny number of people there he can change some minds with, because the vast majority of people on X are not Barack Obama supporters.

That’s just the way it is in 2026.

I wonder why.

Anyway, I waded into that today, and it’s just, I was complaining to a couple internet friends of mine that— My posts complaining about X and talking about how it is not great are some of my most popular posts a lot of the time, and that’s funny to me.

I have so many other things to say.

Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful October 20th.

Man, oh man, I know I am, because tonight I don’t have anything.

I think at one point I have to go pick up my son from school where he’s staying late for band practice and take him home and drive carpool.

But other than that, I have a chill night, and it’s been a minute since I had a chill night, so I’m looking forward to chilling tonight.

I hope you are too.

Goodbye.

Lex.
