Like Father
It’s one of those days where I’m pressing record and I have no idea what the topic of this episode is going to be.
I do know what the theme song is going to be, though.
It’s going to be this.
Your daily Lex.
Appliances.
Let’s have a little appliance talk, shall we?
I think we should.
A couple days ago, we noted that the upper oven wasn’t getting hot enough, and we have an appliance.
Lauren’s like, Do we have an appliance repairman?
We don’t have one.
And I said, Isn’t there a magnet for one on the oven?
It’s on the oven, not the fridge, because our fridge is not magnetic.
And Lauren’s like, Oh, we do have one.
And I’m like, Well, let me also check the Manalapan Residents Facebook page, which is my favorite place to find contractors because people talk about the ones they like.
And there was one that like 20 people recommended, and I said, Well, let’s also contact Chase.
When I contacted Chase, it went to voicemail.
So then I called the magnet people on our oven, and they said, Oh, we can be there Monday in the afternoon, and it’s $150 for us to come out, and if you have us do the repair, that’s credited towards the repair.
And I booked the appointment.
Then Chase called back, and he’s like, I can come Monday morning, and it’s $99 for me to come out, and if you have me do the repair, I credit that to the repair.
And I was like, I want you, Chase.
So I called back the first place, who didn’t answer, and I said, Hey, don’t come, on the voicemail.
Chase came on Monday.
He was very nice.
I understood why everybody liked him.
He’s so tall.
He’s taller than I am.
And he diagnosed the issue with the oven, which is exactly what we thought it was, which is that the door doesn’t close right, and so he said we needed new hinges.
And he’d order them, and he’d come back and install them.
Then after he left, Lauren was like, Ask him about this other thing, this other thing.
So I asked him about the other things, and he…
You know, now that I’m recording this, I don’t know if he did the microwave light.
I gotta ask him about that.
I think he didn’t.
I can change the light bulb, but the microwave light bulb says to be changed by a service professional only, so I didn’t touch it.
But we also wanted him to change out the, I don’t know what you call it, the thing in our laundry machine.
Not the liner, but it’s basically like a liner.
And he said, Hey, I can do that too.
And so that all happened Monday.
Then later Monday, I got a text from the other appliance people saying, Hey, we’re on our way.
And so I called them, and this time they answered.
I’m like, Don’t come.
And they’re like, Why not?
And I said, Well, I left a voicemail for you.
And the guy’s like, I said I left a message for you.
He said, Who’d you leave the message with?
And I said, With the recording.
He was like, Oh, I never check those messages, which seems insane for a business.
But anyway, he hadn’t heard my message, but he understood that he wasn’t getting the work; somebody else was doing it.
He called his person off.
And today, Chase, the appliance man, came back and he fixed the oven door.
He swapped out the, man, oh man, gasket.
That’s the word.
He swapped out the gasket on the laundry machine, and it was great.
He still has to come back because he’s going to swap out the gasket on the oven door as well, but he didn’t have that part in yet.
And like I said, I think I gotta ask him about the microwave, which I’ll do after I’m done recording.
I just want to go check the microwave, because if he did it and just didn’t mention it, I don’t want to ask him to fix it if he already fixed it.
Anyway, appliances are dumb.
And what I found interesting about Chase, besides the fact that he’s 800 feet tall, is that he was like, Yeah, I’ve been in appliances my whole life.
My grandfather sold appliance parts.
My grandfather and dad both repaired appliances, and now I repair appliances.
And like, man, I love that.
Can you imagine if my kids are like, Well, my dad was a podcaster, writer, app developer, consultant, so I’m a…
Probably not.
It probably won’t happen.
If we’re being honest, it probably won’t happen.
Anyway, I hope you’re having a wonderful week.
It’s Wednesday.
Hang in there.
And more soon, everybody.
Lex.
