Defender
I had a thing about it, but I finally came up with a way to tell the story I wanted to tell on this episode without betraying any confidences.
But first, I was going to play the theme song.
But first, even before the theme song, here’s my other story.
I had a doctor’s appointment today.
I’ve been looking forward to this doctor’s appointment.
I get to the doctor’s appointment, and they’re like, the doctor had an emergency.
And, like, not a medical one, but a family one.
So they had to reschedule my appointment.
Good times.
It was a true family emergency, from what I gather, so it’s fine.
It happens.
But anyway, now the emergency is I have such a great story, and I have to play the theme song first.
Your Daily Lex.
As a consultant, you might forget I’m a consultant because I also do, you know, apps and puzzles and a tech website and podcasts.
But I’m a consultant full time.
As a consultant, I have consulting clients all over the world.
I’m talking oceans.
That’s a lie.
But not just here in the U.S.
No, no.
I’ve got companies headquartered in the U.K.
and in Canada and in Israel and other places.
And the Israeli company I’m working with is doing something security related, and they came up with a pretty cool name for their business.
I’m going to use a different name, not the one they chose.
Let’s say they chose Defender, right?
Because they’re helping with security.
So they were like, We’re going to call this Defender.
And unsurprisingly, defender.com wasn’t available.
It’s just a regular word in the English language, so they couldn’t just get defender.com.
And a couple days ago, I noticed they started emailing me from a new domain that they had gotten and registered: whitedefender.com.
Again, they’re not called Defender, but the white is real.
So the name they came up with was whitedefender.com.
And I was like, Ugh.
So I thought about it.
I said, I got to reach out to them.
And I reached out.
I was like, Hey, I don’t think it’s intentional.
But I think your name sounds like it’s racially coded.
White defender might not be giving exactly the message you want to give.
And as soon as I said it, this lovely Israeli woman who I work with was like, Oh yeah, I hear it.
Nope, we are not for the KKK.
Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
So there.
Luckily, I got them, like, I think within 24 hours of when they were intending to incorporate under this new name.
But I have stopped the madness, and they’re gonna clean that up.
So hooray for that.
Whoops.
It’s just kind of funny.
It happens.
English is a second language, and to be clear, their English is still way better than my Hebrew.
Speaking of my Hebrew, I don’t have any transition to follow that, but I thought it’d be a fun way to start a sentence and see what happens.
What happened is I ran into a wall, a verbal wall, a metaphorical wall, but a wall nonetheless.
Not like the Western Wall or Wailing Wall in Israel.
See, I tied it all together, sort of.
I am rambling.
I am rambling hard.
I got nothing.
Oh, you know what I can do is Monday.
On Mondays, I like to do weekend recaps, and I can cheat by looking at my calendar.
So, how was your Halloween?
On Friday, I recorded a game show podcast with the Incomparable.
That was fun.
On Saturday, we went to see Liam in the marching band state championship finals.
We hadn’t seen any of his championship marching band performances all year long, mostly because the timing is really frustrating.
And it was cold, but we got to see him, and he did great.
He has a guitar solo in the middle of the marching band performance, and he rocked it.
His band often comes in last, and they didn’t come in last this time.
They came in second to last.
The reason the band often doesn’t rank as highly, according to Liam, is that the band is poor.
Not like not talented, but other bands have more money and buy a lot more, I don’t know what you call it, but stage dressing, essentially, stuff they wheel out and crazy costumes and whatever else.
Their band is a little bit less that.
But he still, he did great and it was fun to watch.
Then Lauren and I very briefly went home.
It was a long drive.
Drove about 90 minutes home, spent 20 minutes at home rushing a dinner into our faces, and then went to see a musical that some friends were in, Evil Dead the Musical.
And it is an intentionally campy and ridiculous and profane and bloody musical.
When you see that musical, you can often buy tickets for the splash zone where you will get blood on you.
We did not do that, but it was extra funny because, and I guess this happens a lot in performances of this show, but they work hard to make sure the people in the splash zone get bloody.
So, like during some bloodier scenes, like when he saws off his hand, spoiler alert, or various deaths happen, crew will come out from the wings and just start spraying blood on the people in the splash zone from spray bottles.
Pretty funny.
Anyway, it was a good time.
That was Saturday.
And then Sunday, oh, Sunday, what a beautiful day.
We had a lazy day.
I had a not do too many things, and I enjoyed not doing them, up until I watched the Eagles game, which I did not enjoy.
Anyway, hope you’re having a great November 2nd, and a happy Monday to all.
Lex.
